McHappy day is just good pr and I'm sure it makes them more money than it costs them.... I don't really think they are 'giving' away anything.
And yeah, not to mention that they're helping just a few sick kids on the back of millions of animals being tortured, the environment being destroyed, people getting sick, etc.....
To me, it seems as though McDonalds is getting the kids sick, and then having places to care for them once they do become sick. The story of our contemporary fast food society I think.
I know a family who have had to use a McDonalds house and it wasn't because their kid got sick from what they were eating... it was because she was born 2mths early & lived in ICU for 3mths. McDonalds houses are for bush kids & their families... these families using the houses probably get Maccas once a year when they go into "the big city". Maccas really has nothing to do with the kids getting sick.
I admire that there is someone out there doing this for families... I just hate how they do it. There are plenty of other ways. But while people are out there happy to go buy a Big Mac for a great cause - no one else will try to do the same.
But yes they have a lot to answer for the kids who live in "the big cities" who are eating it. It's just that these families generally have nothing to do with the houses.
Do you think they do actually do it for the kids? I'm pretty sure saying it's instead a combination of cheap PR and a way to get more people buying more burgers. Also, it's definitely a way to alientate environmental, animal and workers' rights activists; "why target us, we help sick kids!"
Afterall, they are a private company; they're driven by profit. I don't think anyone enters the corporate world to change the world, or even make a difference. Business isn't about ethics; it's about making money anyway possible. McDonalds will do whatever it takes to increase profits, which is why they have such a notorius reputation for their treatment of animals, the environment and their workers. But, that's capitalism, eh?. It sucks.

i dont like macdonalds i dont agree with how they do mac happy day,but it is a good thing for families to be able to stay close to there child, some children go there with server burns i highly doubt macdonalds was the reason for burns.
sadly it is run by maccas but to even have a place like that for families has its benefits for the children and there recovery.
in my opinion its to make people keep buying there products because they help children, and hope it hides the cruelty behind there company.

The thing I find annoying is that they say "there will be an extra ingrediant in your burger today, hope!" It's not the BURGER that has hope, it's the MONEY that they donate that has hope! That's what really annoys me! It's not like it's giving hope to Animals is it? No, it's the donations that give hope, not burgers!
Wow, some of the responses to this have gotten quite heated and I guess I just wanted to say this; everyone on this website is obviously doing what they can for the wellbeing of animals which benefits humans too. Instead of tearing each other down for not doing things right or not enough we should be praising each other for what we have done and what we will do. Nobody is perfect and in my experience a lot of people are put off standing up for what they believe in whether it be animal rights, human rights or other causes, because they feel they will be judged and not meet the standards of the cause. As I have been, like all of us on this site, brought up in a world where unethical acts are just a part of everyday living, I know as you all do, how difficult it is to break the cycle (and I am currently finding it hard to become vegan for example). But this doesn't mean I am not trying or do not care. Getting back to this topic, issues regarding human rights are difficult because obviously not everyone is able to help, but I suppose if you care about human rights you should be the first one to treat others with respect and kindness in everyday situations like this one. And this is not directed at anyone, just my general 2 cents. haha
what are your thoughs on McHappy Day? unethical for the animals but good for the sick kids and familys.
just thought id put this out there even though i think no one on here would have bought a big mac, lol.
Yeh, it funds those places which accomdate the already-sick kids' families.
But what about the kids who aren't sick?
We know McDonalds pumps its meat, particulary chicken, with hormones and steroids which have proven links to cancer.

But regardless of the links to disease, it's obvious; "McHappy Day" does far more bad than it does good. I wonder how many animals will be sacrificed today, only to become a burger for which every one sold $1 will be donated to charity? Hundreds of thousands. Gone forever.
I agree with you on that Matt. If Maccas really cared about sick kids, firstly they wouldn't be trying to lock them into a lifetime of crappy food by capturing/exploiting them with their McHappy Box meal (or whatever it is) with toys and such. Second, they exploit children/teenagers as (cheap) workers and reduce them down to no-skills-required, button-pushing-robots.
This machine does not care about sick kids. It's a ploy to make it look like it does.

i suppose its good for the sick kids, but the animals they probably make the burgers from are just as sick. maybe they should do a vegie/vegan burger to raise funds.
