Unless your albino, you get your vitamin D from sun exposure. I'm pretty sure she was trolling more than anything. Anyone who was studying naturapathy should at least know that.

Thank god that is over. Although I must admit it gave me some entertainment trying to keep up with this conversation. Especially the plant bit lol.

But insulting veg nachos? TOO FAR.  furious

I accidently came onto this site. I found the first letter interesting because that is what I am researching at the moment. The first letter was orginally about how some vegans are contradictive and unethical because they purchase nestle, coca cola etc. I was just agreeing on this and related it to a friend of mine who is vegan and is getting who baby vaccinated,  which I find extremely contradictive and cruel on many different levels. I immunise my child homeopathically. I have in fact saved animals in my own way, whilst I was in Latin America I spent alot of time protesting deforestation which I beleive is a main reason many animals die and become extinct and dying as slow horrible death. I also have financially supported Greenpeace and Amazon Watch and have written letters to Chevron regarding their irresponsabilty in Equadorian Amazon during extracting petroleum and causing oil spills which they now deny.  If that is not enough to help against animal cruelty, I do not know what is. The Amazon is a sacred place for its people and animals.

I also am going back to Colombia to take my child into the jungle to see animals in their natural environment, as I refuse to take him to the zoo. Also in my husbands village in Colombia, people have dogs as pets but they are allowed onto the street at any time and only go to their home to eat and then leave again. They are completely free and ironically are very calm and non agressive. Probably because they are not locked up in the backyard.

I was at times upset at the ignornace on this site and it seems its not really about animals but an attack on people who eat animal products. I actually said many times that I respect vegans but was not able to continue being one because of certain issues I have had with my health.

I was not here to stir as I feel very strong about what I stand for.

Peace! and sorry for causing anyone to get upset. But hey at least I respect people enough to say sorry even if I do disagree. Seems that is impossible from a vegan on this site,so I am only expecting negative comments after this.

This could easily be read as an attempt to start an argument again... which is not going to help the situation.

Evonne, it sounds like there are many issues on which we agree. I am very concerned about the way animals are treated, but I am equally concerned about any other injustice I see in the world, including the way we treat other humans (including indigenous peoples), and the way we are destroying the environment. It sounds like you have taken many steps to reduce your impact on the world, and for that I commend you.

We don't live in a black and white world. Ethics is a very complex issue, and sadly there are many injustices. It is impossible for any of us to be perfect... Not a single one of us is without some conflicts between our values and our actions - but that's not an argument against each of us doing what we can to make the world a better place. I'm sure we can agree on this...?

I can see that this debate could go round in circles again and revert to insults again. Perhaps it's time to let this discussion rest.

peace

Thank you! That is probably the most intelligent response I have had since this discussion.

By the way, I was only here to point out contradictions of some vegans and not here to put down veganism in general. I was just adding on to the original post. Somehow people here misunderstood my message and attacked me just because I eat meat.

Funny thing is I didn't come here to tell people to eat meat or change their lifestyle and there is no reason to do so, I support it. I was only adding on some knowledge about vaccines and animal cruelty, which is what they should beleive in anyway. I was actually on their side about animal cruelty.

Please read my original post. I was only pointing out some unethical practices to do with certain vegan foods and certain practices that can affect animals. At the end I gave indigenous people as an example because I beleive they live a very balanced life. I did not at anytime say vegans are wrong.

I thought it might me helpful for some unaware vegans to be informed about other factors which harm animals. I guess people were not interested and took it as an attack on vegans.

Look, I want to put this topic to rest as much as anyone else, but can you not see that every post you make is belligerence disguised as peacekeeping?

The converstion has rested. Only it seems you want this keep it going and I do not know why. It has been settled and we have concluded that we all care for animals and ethics in our own way, our beleifs and views are different and that is how the world works, we are all different.

I am a peacekeeper by the way!!! After all I am the only one who has apologised and that is the first step to peace. I was taught to apologise, even if I am sure I am right.  I even apologise to my husband when I think things are too heated, even if I think he is wrong. I do not like over arguing, its stressful, but at the same time I do try to defend myself. You can't agree totally with anyone, thats life!! I do not agree with everyone who eats meat because many people do not think about where they buy their meat, how the animals have lived and been treated,  so why would I agree with all vegans, especially when not all vegans are ethical.

The only way we can be at peace is to make friends with our enemies, although do not consider vegans my enemies, its obvious they see me as an enemy.

Someone should just freeze this topic already. It's going to start again.

Personal story of mine. I had a dog when I was 13, her name was Marsha. She was really close to my mother and very protective of her. She was also very jelous and hated when I was anywhere near my mother. One day she got so jelous she bit me on the eye. Lucky for me she was small and I came out of it with stiches, which you can hardly see today. Almost lost and eye though.

My parents were so scared they wanted to put her down and ofcourse I protested. I thought that it was not her fault and it really wasn't, she was just jelous and could not help that.

We kept her for many more years and one day she escaped onto the road and a car hit her. We took her to the vet and he said it was going to be too expensive and we could purchase 4 more dogs instead of saving her. I loved her so much I could not bare to loose her. We took her to sydney uni and hey fixed her broken pelvis. It cost 3,000, which was alot of money for our family back then. I nursed her for over 2 months as she was very fragile.

She lived many more years and then got sick with cardiomiopathy, which ironically my dad had and he had a transplant. Unfortunantly they did not have this procedure for dogs at that time and I am not sure if they now do.
