Why would Mcdonalds tell the truth? How is them saying "Oh no, we don't care for the animals welfare and your health as long as we continue to make money" going to benefit them? They'll just lose you as a customer if they haven't lost you already.
Sorry if I sound mean. That was not my intention.
I got a similar email to that. Possibly the same.
Dear Jess,

Thank you for your email.

At McDonald’s we take very seriously our responsibility to ensure that the animals in our supply chain are properly cared for. All of our animal health and welfare standards meet or exceed all Australian requirements and we have a comprehensive audit program that includes independent third party auditors.

We are working with all of our pork suppliers to assess their future plans for pig housing.

We are closely following a US study by the Coalition for Sustainable Egg Supply comparing traditional, cage-free and enriched laying hen house systems. We will also evaluate a trial of cage free eggs currently underway by McDonald’s New Zealand.

I don't believe it for a second. They are just telling you what you want to hear. It's the same with all of the cruel companies, they're all working on improving their animal welfare standards, yet nothing's actually changing. Contact any company who test on animals, sell animal products or farm animals. The responses are all pretty much the same, false promises.

Did anyone word theirs fairly lightly?
I worded mine quite lightly. I try to avoid attacking language when emailing people about animal welfare issues. I don't want to give people that care about animals a bad impression and I know that people become very defensive when attacked and are more likely to send you a generic answer.

What I got from my communication with McDonalds was that they are really not interested in animal welfare, as their customers do not care and will continue to buy their products no matter where they come from. They seemed to only be concerned with animal welfare so far as to protect their appearance. Of course, in saying that I do really hope that they do demand better welfare products.

Does anyone know how to get to McDonald's "contact us' page? It's just making me go through countless pointless links.  angry

I just contacted McDonalds. I may have gotten a little bit strong-worded near the end.

I got my response, and it has a little more information but I don't believe any of it. The "animal welfare page" they are directing me to doesn't even exist.

Hello Kelsey:

Thank you for taking the time to contact McDonald's to share your opinions with us regarding the welfare of animals. We appreciate the opportunity to direct you to an area within our web site that contains more information regarding this issue.

First, we want you to know that at McDonald's we care about the welfare of animals. We recognize that our responsibility as a purchaser of food includes working with our suppliers to ensure good animal handling practices.

If you visit our web site (www.mcdonalds.com/corporate/info/welfare/welfare.html), you will find more information about our relationships with our suppliers, our animal welfare programs, and our work with experts in the field of livestock handling and behavior. Lastly, for additional information on this subject, through our web site, you may want to link to the sites of the American Meat Institute Animal Welfare Kit, www.grandin.com, and the press release from the American Meat Institute Foundation.

Again, thank you for contacting McDonald's. We appreciate this opportunity to share this information with you.
