I worked as a Veterinary Nurse for sometime and if an animal is suffering and having a miserable life, euthanasia is the best option. Nothing worse than seeing pet owners dragging out an animals suffering, it is unfair and inhumane,

Also, on the  whole issue of being offered to sedate an animal or not before euthanisa. If it is a decent veterinary practice there is no choice the animal WILL be sedated. The only time this is not the case is if the animal is unconscious or already in a sedated state.

At the end of the day generally the cheaper the vet the cheaper the job done. I have known of vets to take cheaper methods in many areas of veterinary medicine including even glueing an animal up instead of stitches after desexing. I witnessed many horrible things in the so called caring side of the animal industry. So please research a vet practice before letting a vet go anywhere near an animal

oh my god, i didnt relise that was an option.
when my gorgeous baby boy was euthanised just over a year ago, he was euthanised conscious. He was also heavily medicated for pain prior. I am hoping that was what is called sedation. I told them spare no expense. they swore nothing could be done. This i can tell you, when that drug went in.....he screamed! And he was a stoic boy who never complained during his illness, nor any other time. My heart is breaking all over again to think i missed YET another thing in his care.
I felt he was ill 11 months before they finally diagnosed it and relied on them to tell me that NOTHING was wrong. his blood tests were fine. Finally an xray found it. Always insist on an xray. If i had known that, i would have insisted on it 11 months before. My new baby girl i will get xrayed every year of her life now. If she gets cancer (and some are now treatable) early identification will aid in recovery. This really touches a nerve in me. I feel angry still... at myself and angry at the vets who make assumptions that people dont want to pay for additional testing. At every test i said ok so its not that....is it possible its ANYTHING else? It was only when he had lost enough weight they began to take me seriously. (he was overweight and they kept saying its great he is finally losing weight)
sorry for the rant
