Songs Of Inspiration

Probably one of the greatest lyrical inspirations for me back in the day, was Martin Walyier, who I personally consider a genius.  Martin fronted U.K. thrash metal band Sabbat, before leaving and starting pagan folk/thrash band, Skyclad.  It was through Martin's lyrics in this band that bought out my interest in politics and encouraged me to become more socially aware. His use of word play and puns have always stood out, singing about various social topics, but the song I have posted below I have included because, like Megadeth's 'Countdown To Extinction', talks about how we hunt, or use animlas, for sport.

'Bewilderbeast'
from Jonah's Ark (Noise)
by Skyclad

See the brave toreador
just look at him thrive
Off the crowd as they roar.

For death brings a thrill
To the everyday lives of the
"non-com" observers
Who gloat and chastise
My mind can't believe we maintain
This barbarous blood thirsty game.

In their picturesque dwellings the aristo-classes
Spill blood that's not claret from cut-crystal glasses.
Never once pausing to contemplate why
For vanity's victories innocents die.

No better than bloodhounds
Hot on the scent
They butcher their prey
When its' energy's spent
My mind can't believe we maintain
This barbarous blood thirsty game.

Please show me this "sportsman"
You mention with pride
With his dog to defend him
And his gun at his side
If courage is the one thing
Your kind do not lack
Then why don't you hunt something
That can fight you back?

I see only cowardice ridden by guilt
And your hands won't wash clean of the blood they have spilt.
What measure of madness makes you all so ill
That your passport to pleasure's a licence to kill?

So I won't waste my time trying to understand why
For vanity's victories innocents die
'Cus you're all vicious bastards I'm sick of your crap
So I won't bat an eyelid when it's you in the trap.
I still can't believe we maintain
This barbarous blood thirsty game.

Well, this will probably be the last post here for awhile, as I think I have run of of songs to post, but if there are other songs that people can think of, feel free to post.

The song below is by doom band Cathedral. It might be unusual for such lyrics from a doom metal band, but Lee Dorian - who also owns Rise Above Records - did once front the mighty Napalm Death, and is also a vegan, so I guess this is his way of speaking up for the 'voiceless', as he so elegently puts it. Its a great song that speaks from the animals point of view.  I love the line about 'death camps', which is so, so true. We can talk about the travesty of human death camps, like the Holocaust, yet not think twice about the' death camps' of animals.

'Requiem For The Voiceless'
from The Guessing Game (Nuclear Blast) album
by Cathedral

They've caged me here in this circus hell
That human audience I know so well
Thrash my bones so the act may please
Your jeers and laughter too loud to hear my pleas

Set me free humanity
My eyes bleached out I cannot see
You wear my fur for vanity
Chew on my flesh then excrete me

I am imprisoned in your death camp farm
Until my limbs are butchered one by one
Scattered random in your supermarket fridge
As for my children, well they're probably in tins

Set me free humanity
My eyes bleached out I cannot see
You wear my fur for vanity
Chew on my flesh then excrete me

Shoot me out of the sky
Slaughter me at sea

Hunt me in the fields
Why not let me be?

You live a life of death you ignorant fools
For mistakes you make use us as your tools
Inject my body with your wretched disease
I cannot hate you, I have not energy

Set me free humanity
I have no voice, won't you please help me
