White Sugar in Australia hasn't been filtered with charred animal bones since 1996.  Raw Sugar, Brown Sugar etc.... isn't filtered.

As others have posted sugar isn't refined through bone char in Australia as well as the UK. This is primarily an American concern. So you don't need to worry.

But isnt that what some Aussies say about factory farming?  happy

But i think sugar is refined through animal bones. Raw sugar is very unhealthy though.

Yes. Thankfully for those living in AU and UK this process is seen by the sugar refineries are very outdated. We haven't been using this process for a LONG time. However in America I understand that all the major sugar manufacturer's use bone char for filtering the sugar. As far as baking your own treats go I understand it's fairly easy to find sugar that hasn't been refined in that way from health food or larger supermarkets. You'll just have to look into the different brands. However it is a bigger concern as far as buying packaged products goes. You'll have to decide where you draw the line on these things.

Any one want to look into bone in Salt ?

Apparently to keep the particles separate and dry,
my Dad mentioned this, but he is an ol'timer.

So he could be talking 60 years ago...
