Just read this article on ABC online. It is giving people the choice to decide whether this piglet (named Wilbur 101) is castrated or not. There is a link to the FB page in the article and I was astounded to find that there were double the amount of people who wanted the pig castrated compared to those that don't. The piglet only has by the end of the day for us to decide his fate, so please go to the FB page and vote 'no' to castrating him.
It depends how the Piglet is Castrated, When Boars are entire they can become quiet Aggressive and can cause alot of Damage to other pigs and people. My Pig Shilo is Castrated, He was done at the vets when he was a piglet under anesthetic. If they are going to Castrate Wilbur Under anesthetic i would say yes to castrating him but if they are going to castrate him without i would suggest to use Anesthetic. Is he a pet pig? Sorry for asking i just cant open the link as it wont load on my phone

Hi OinkMoo,
All the points you make are completely valid, but to answer your question, no, he is a farm pig and they are going to slaughter the poor pig at the end of the year. From the way that I understand it, they will not bother to use Anesthetic as this would be too costly and he is only a farm pig.
I don't understand this at all. If they're even suggesting that slaughter, castration and so forth is cruel, why even entertain the idea of giving people the choice of deciding the piglet's fate? Why not simply give the poor thing a chance at life?
I do agree 100% je ne comprends. I think that even having a poll in regards to this, is extremely distasteful, and I will be writing a complaint to ABC in regards to this. Having said that, in the meantime, if we should prevent the pig from being castrated it is going to be without Anasthetic. I think that maybe the ABC should adopt the poor piglet.
I should have mentioned, that what really upset me about the FB page where some of the comments that people were writing, obviously meat eaters, were quite upsetting. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but some of them really unnecessary. It seems that the owners of Wilbur101 have listened to feedback of the people posting on the FB page, and decided that if they DO go ahead with castrating, they will look at using an Anasthetic, which is at least one good thing I guess.
This vote is actual a first over the next month where people get to decide in the management of this pig, which I believe is completely distasteful.

Maybe someone in the area can adopt him? Or 'legally' steal him... not encouraging crime here (cough).
I agree. The farmer did leave a FB message and a link to her home page so would not be hard to work out where they are. They consider themselves ethical farmers but when it comes to the slaughter of any animal I think that is a bit of a irony. But even if poor Wilbur101 was saved there are all his poor little brothers and sisters.

The whole thing is sickening; it's a game. It's a cruel joke of the poor baby piggy's life. Is this all for publicity or something? Because it definitely sounds like it.
