In 2011 the Australian programme makers ABC Four Corners exposed the horrors of the Australian live export industry. For almost two decades, Australia has been exporting cattle to Indonesia claiming cattle were humanely treated and slaughtered. It was a lie. The ABC Four Corners programme, A Bloody Business finally revealed the true conditions that awaited some Australian cattle in Indonesian slaughterhouses.  http://www.abc.net.au/4corners/special_eds/20110530/cattle/

Images of Australian cattle being tortured in Indonesia shocked not only Australia but also the rest of the world. I honestly believe if the playwright Shakespeare had lived in our time and seen this programme, he would have penned his finest tragedy. Although Australia is now exporting more livestock than ever, and Animals Australia is still exposing terrible cruelty, the ABC Four Corners programme did bring some welcome changes to the Australian live export trade.  The Exporter Supply Chain Assurance Scheme was introduced. A system requiring exporters to provide evidence of compliance with internationally agreed animal welfare standard, and to demonstrate traceability and control through the supply chain.

In 2012, as a direct result of the ABC programme, less cattle were exported to Indonesia that year. Also a two year ban of sheep to Egypt was imposed (the ban has now been lifted).  80% of sheep are now stunned in Jordanian slaughterhouses.  The Australian public became more aware of the Australian live exports and the resulting public protests did bring about some change. However, the Australian live exports are still subject to terrible abuse and non-compliance in countries where there is no animal welfare laws.  

The European Union live export trade is in shambles.  Every day tens of thousands of livestock are exported to Turkey. the Middle East, North Africa, and Russia.  After enduring a long and cruel journey they are slaughtered inhumanely in foreign slaughterhouses. https://www.ciwf.org.uk/donate/pages/terror.aspx They are the forgotten victims because most Europeans are ignorant of their tragic fate.

I want the BBC programme maker Panorama to expose the full horrors of the live export trade.  This respected programme maker will finally reveal to the British public the full horror of what awaits our cattle, sheep, pigs, and calves in foreign slaughterhouses. It is also in the public interest that this vile and immoral trade is exposed to the British public. The whole European Union live export industry is subsidized by our taxes. Yes! We are paying for this industry. Please BBC Panorama do a programme on the EU live export industry!

The isolated population of brown bears on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula is in trouble. Last year, even before state hunting regulations were loosened to allow bear baiting, 69 brown bears were killed legally and another 23 were killed illegally -- reducing the total number of adult female bears by 18 percent.

If these practices continue, such high kill rates could quickly lead to a collapse of the Kenai's brown bear population.

This season's forecast is equally grim: 1,300 permits have already been handed out this spring, with another 700 still available, allowing 2,000 hunters to comb the woods to kill up to 70 bears.

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge took a stand last year to protect this rare and distinct subspecies of Ursus arctos by ending its hunting season early.

Take action today -- urge the refuge to close its lands to brown bear hunting once again to give these bears a fighting chance at survival in their ancestral home.

A viral video uploaded on June 30th, 2013 shows a Hawthorne, California police officer fatally shooting a Rottweiler named Max as he ran away. The dog's owner, Leon Rosby, was being arrested after video-recording a standoff between police and armed robbers. Rosby had been walking his dog at the time of the standoff. As he was arrested, Rosby put Max in his car. When the police handcuffed Rosby, Max jumped out of the window to defend his owner. The police shot the dog four times. The video shows Max writhing and whimpering on the ground before he died.

Police have a bad habit of thoughtlessly shooting dogs, especially during drug raids. Another bad police habit is arresting and beating citizens who record police actions. This violates freedom of the press as guaranteed in the First Amendment. It is unjust and cruel how Max was killed without the officer thinking twice.

Please sign this petition if you want to bring justice for Max and teach police officers that they are not allowed to do this

Hi everyone - I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who signed this petition and particularly to those who plan to be outside Bolton Magistrate's Court tomorrow afternoon.

I sent the petition to the court this morning, but plan to e-mail an update tomorrow, as people are still signing.

Let's just hope that our voices will be heard by the magistrates when it comes to them sentencing David Lowe, and that his abuse of this beautiful animal won't go unpunished.

When 15-year-old Fly was discovered after a tip-off from neighbours, vet Angus McKenzie said Fly was the most severely emaciated dog he had seen either dead or alive in more than 30 years. She was dehydrated and rated zero on a ‘body condition scale’ - with a rating of one being classed as emaciated.  She was more than half the weight she should have been and was suffering from dental disease, a heart murmur and diabetes.

Her owner David Lowe (inset) had been given money by his former partner to take the dog to a vet, but Lowe didn’t bother. On discovery, Fly was immediately signed over to RSPCA care but because of her ‘cumulative conditions’, the only humane course was to put her to sleep. The vet said that the sad thing about the case is that individually, the conditions were all treatable and manageable had veterinary advice been sought at an earlier stage and acted upon.

Lowe has been found guilty of five counts of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. The case has been adjourned until April 30, so in the meantime, please urge Bolton magistrates court to pass a prison sentence for this horrendous crime.

The state of Idaho has received permission to kill up to 4000 ravens, a bird that is protected by federal law. The justification for this killing is that ravens prey on the eggs of the sage-grouse, a bird which is finally being put onto the endangered list.

19 factors including mining and energy development, powerlines, drought and hunting have been identified as contributing to the sage-grouse's declining numbers. Predation by other wildlife comes in at #12.

Why is the highly intelligent raven being singled out for destruction, especially before other causes -- especially those related to human activity -- are addressed?

Ravens are among the most intelligent creatures on the planet. Please sign this petition and reach out in other ways to prevent this massive and unnecessary destruction.

UPDATE: On April 4, it was reported that the state of Idaho plans to start placing poisoned eggs in three separate areas of the state sometime this spring. Ravens are hard to kill with guns because they are so smart, so other methods are being used.

Rock legend Joan Jett is appealing to Rhode Island lawmakers to ban trainers from using the bullhook, a painful steel hook similar to a fireplace poker used to control performing elephants. Though an elephant's skin appears uniformly tough, it is paper-thin around the ears, mouth and anus, and trainers often imbed the hook in these areas, causing significant pain.

Los Angeles banned the bullhook in 2013, and over 35 other jurisdictions in the U.S. currently ban the bullhook and/or restrict the use of elephants in travelling shows. Following Los Angeles' ban, the L.A. Shriners decided not to use elephants in their circuses after 88 years, probably because they are difficult to control without bullhooks. Clearly, banning the cruel tool in Rhode Island would improve the lives of elephants in the state.

"This policeman thought it would be a good idea to have some fun with a poor pig, while on duty. It wasn’t enough he had to humiliate the animal, but also had to shoot a photo and share it on social media. Although it was intended to be a joke, such demeanor cannot be accepted at all. Facebook, flag images of horrific animal abuse!

Sick people have latitude on Facebook to display proudly horrible pictures they made of killing, slaughtering and abusing animals just for 'fun'. There are several pages on Facebook who enjoy themselves with this sick behavior and so far Facebook says:

"Thank you for taking time to report what you think might be in conflict with the guidelines for the Facebook community. Reports like yours are important to make Facebook a safe and pleasant environment. At this time we have checked the page that you have reported for violent images, but do not consider that the content is in breach of our Guidelines for the community."

We are not settling for this weak, impersonal and cold statement, if it is not in the Guidelines yet, then put it in there!

Facebook should remove pages/pictures/users/groups who display horrible animal abuse as a trophy. NOW!
