Unleashed Admin
Hi Kylie,
Thanks for your feedback. We have always been happy to see petitions being posted to the forum and glad that people are taking action.

The proposal for petitions to be placed in one thread is not something we'd considered until we noticed a recent increase in the volume of petitions being posted - relative to other content. We had begun to notice that rather than petitions being posted semi-regularly one at a time, there was an increasing tendency for multiple petitions to be posted in one hit - which inadvertently bumped other ongoing discussions off the front page and made it more difficult at times for those not looking for petitions to find the content they were after. We had received some feedback raising concerns about this trend, and so were seeking a solution that created a balance in the content on the forum - so that people could readily find what they were looking for.

While the Unleashed community is full of people who are keen to take action for animals, that is not the only reason that people come to the forum. So in moderating, our goal is always to be conscious of how most people are contributing, and strike a balance that offers people the opportunity to engage in a way that interests them, whilst also offering information, support and ways to take action for those who are looking for these things. We do our best to listen to the sentiments of the community and address concerns to keep the forum a place that everyone can enjoy and will keep coming back to. After all, if people don't keep coming back, then they can't become informed about new issues or take action.

If you have concerns about petitions being posted in one thread, then I think there is still a solution that can work for everyone. If petitions were being posted in a more organic way, rather than in one big influx, then I don't see that there would be a need for them to be placed in one thread. This would give people the opportunity to take action, whilst still making it easy for others to find the content they are after. Thanks for your understanding and help to keep the forum a user-friendly place for everyone happy

I'm really not seeing the problem... I feel guilty for logging on, adding as best I can to several threads at once (though most of the time being a dork), then disappearing again having swamped the forum with my thoughts.

Yet you feel nothing for defacing the whole front page of the forum, wiping it clean of old threads with nothing but pasted petitions?

Look... does it not make more sense... Just to like... maybe... post a new petition... to the petition thread each day and behold... the WHOLE group of petitions is back up to the top of the forum. Instead... they pass off the front page... noone adds any comments to them.. and they are gone? What are you going to go into each one and type *bump* to perk up interest.

Petitions are a special kind of atrocity.. they are packaged up like "You can do something about this RIGHT NOW", that carries with it a special kind of guilt... for not having time, energy then even care to read into how terrible another myriad things are. and then considering the disappointment if your actions, thoughts, input, time and kindness... leads to no resolution. But helps fund this new petition industry... soaking up all the donations and funding that could otherwise be directed to solve particular problems always overshadowed by the great 'adversity' of humanity at large. it has to change "grass-roots", first in our attitudes, homes and lives.

Please, everyone just conserve your better energy for making your lives beautiful and giving help when you can to those around you and finding new places to be more involved... like in educating children, or lending a hand at a local animal farm once a week. Just little things.

These things give you back so much for your energy... debates give you nothing but agitation and disapointment. Even if you win... without anything changing, what have you won? A smelly sticker for being a big jerk (aimed at noone, as noone can win a debate that isn't).

lets get some ideas happening,
what can we do with our care, to help and that will help us find some happiness happy

sure people are powerful in numbers, but quantitative (quantity vs. quality) values (money) are what have allowed so many to fall into greed and waste. we are so much more powerful, each on our own... in our own lives... together.... than as a figurative gesture of care.  pillowfight

I also don't see the benefit of posting petitions. I receive emails from Animals Australia, Amnesty International etc and sign those. I don't need to come on here to find petitions, and it only clogs up the forum and makes other posts harder to find.

I understand that you're trying to help, but I don't think this is the medium to spread petitions, as is evidenced by the lack of views/comments on your petition posts. I assume others are in the same position as me and do not come onto this forum to sign them.

I think the petition thread is a good compromise as it allows those who wish to sign them to do so, but does not clog up the forum for the rest of us.
