Yeah I thought it was really weird too? I didn't even get the whole "u need meat 4 protein and milk 4 calcium" etc which is what I was expecting... plus the fact it's solved 90% of the reason I saw this guy in the first place? Ugh who cares I got what I needed I'll just know to look out for his name next time!
Also I find it hard to believe your house mates don't think you can get sick from meat?!?!? That's like .... that's common sense. Especially chicken. I've only ever had food poisoning from meat dishes ..

He probably didn't bother attempting the whole calcium and protein angle as he would have obviously looked stupid... Maybe he has already tried to challenge veg'ns before and been shamefully been proven wrong because all vitamins and minerals, including trace elements can be found in plants foods
The funny thing is that the housemate that said it is arround 60-70 so usually that generation know the basic stuff but I think he was just trying the whole ' attack is defense ' thing and panicked and came out with that.
I read a great little saying that doctors should read and live by 'meat (as well as synthetic and chemicals) is the slowest form of poison'
if everyone was in good health doctors would be out of business, you have to remember that most health professionals are funded by the meat and dairy industries. i'm still looking for a vegan friendly doctor.
in responding to arguments i usually just throw facts in their faces but most people won't want to hear it. it's highly frustrating. sometimes i try to turn it into a joke if i'm feeling nice.

It sort of reminds me of bible study... Years back I had a friend who was part of a bible study group and they used to read and discuss books about responding to atheists and responding to people who criticise Christianity etc. Hehe (I'm not saying don't read the book, just it reminded me of that.)
