I live in a little mudbrick hut next to a little hamlet called Adelaide. I like Adelaide; it's interesting and quirky, and takes some time to get to know. I've been studying now for so long I don't even know any more. I'm doing post-grad research into public health, specifically looking at ways to reduce the burden of chronic illnesses among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
When I'm not stressing about my studies, I'm busy teaching and doing research assistant work at uni. And the rest of my time goes towards doing other things I love: thinking about stuff, keeping up to date with current affairs, bitching about current affairs, talking, drinking, dancing and being merry with my wonderful friends, wallowing on the couch with a good book, and patting the neighbour's dog, Mack.
I'm a lover and a hater, I have really strong passions and opinions. But I try to calm myself and reserve judgement, because my short lifetime thus far of learning and thinking has taught me that, if nothing else, it's a complex and wonderous world that we live in and judgement is an ugly trait that leads to conflict. And if we really feel strongly about something, live it, talk about it. Lead quietly and strongly by example - yelling at people rarely does more than to alienate them from the cause.
Oh, and music makes the world go 'round!
