I am a vegan.
I am so inclined, because of my profound and indelible reverence for all life. At one point some four thousand million years ago, life began when free moving amino acids, became self replicating DNA which for some reason amalgamated to form the first single celled, self replicating organism. This is the origin of all life, and some four thousand million years later all life forms on our planet are related, direct descendants of this original life form, separated only, but invariably, by the wonders of genetic drift and natural selection.
All living organisms are compelled, irrevocably so, to continue on living in the best comfort that they can achieve, some even developing sentience, emotions and the ability to feel pain, just as we. So, who are we to destroy, abuse and exploit the other life forms, so like our selves, who have the misfortune of sharing the planet with us?
As far as we know, our small and vulnerable planet is the first, in the entirety of space and time, to evolve life. If we do not respect and care for our fragile planet, and the life forms that have evolved upon it, what hope do we have of survival as a species? what hope does life have?
We are the obligated custodians of our planet, and the life forms upon it. Failure to care for our earth, and the plethora of life that has come into existance upon it, can only be viewed as selfish and absurd, an insult to our collective intelligence and ingenuity.
For the love of life, we must exercise compassion... for if we don't respect all life, how can we respect and care for one an other? So intent are we, it seems, to destroy our own planet, and evereything on it, that it is easy to forget...
We are all earthlings... I've made the connection.
Have you?
