A new investigation by US-based Mercy for Animals, has exposed the gruesome fate that awaits male chicks in the egg industry. Undercover footage taken at the largest egg-laying hen hatchery in the world has revealed male chicks being thrown, dropped, mutilated and ground up alive. And the really shocking part..? This is all legal and standard practice in Australia as well.

Male chicks don't have any economic value to the egg industry. They cannot lay eggs and they do not grow large or fast enough to be sold for meat. So, similar to bobby calves in the dairy industry, these young animals are treated as mere 'waste products'. An estimated 10 million male chicks are ground up alive or gassed to death by the Australian egg industry every year.
The best thing you can do to end this cruelty is simply not eat eggs.
