What if this were your dog?

Despite being more intelligent the average dog, pigs in Australian factory farms have been subjected to unthinkable cruelty. 'Sow stalls' are little cages used to confine and isolate mother pigs during pregnancy. With no national ban in sight, pigs can be confined in the tiny cages, unable even to turn around for months on end, denying them exercise and any quality of life. As a result, they suffer painful physical ailments and even depression.

Get Pigs Out of Cruel Cages!

On June 10th 2010, Tasmania announced it would become the first Aussie state to ban the practice of confining pregnant mother pigs in 'sow stalls' — one of the cruellest practices ever inflicted upon animals in Australia.

The decision, which will end some of the worst suffering endured by animals in factory farms, has been celebrated by animal welfare groups and caring people all across the country.

'Sow stalls' are considered cruel all over the world, and have already been banned in the UK for a decade! Australian laws, however, still openly permit this cruelty, with no national ban in sight. Tasmania's announcement clearly shows that state governments do not have to follow flawed national standards that allow unacceptable cruelty to animals.

All pigs deserve to be free from cruelty. Please help urge the remaining Australian states to follow Tasmania's forward-thinking lead in ending one of the worst cruelties to pigs.
