The Shorty Awards are known as the Oscars of the Twitter world -- and Animals Australia has been nominated! Whooooo!

Unleashed's big sis, Animals Australia is stoked to have been receiving nominations. And 2011 was a huge year for the organisation AND on Twitter:

Thousands of people learnt about the legalised cruelty of Australian industries like factory farming, live export, jumps racing, duck shooting, dairy and more, just by followers retweeting Animals Australia's tweets calling for action.

2011 has been an absolutely huge year for animal rights in Australia. And we couldn't have done it without you! (that's right, we reckon you rock!)

Can you believe we had over 40,000 media stories this year? That's a whole lot of people who have learnt more about animal rights this year, and now we want you to help us show even more people how to change the world for animals!

Bake an Egg-free Cake to Celebrate World Egg-FREE Day!

Did you know the egg industry grinds up male chicks alive? No joke... About 12 million of them suffer this fate (or are gassed to death) each year in Australia. All because they were born male -- and so can't produce eggs. Check out this investigation from the world's largest hatchery (sadly, the same things happen here)...

This Friday, October 14th, the egg industry is trying to claim a day all to themselves: World Egg Day. But for these male chicks, not to mention battery hens locked in cages too small to stretch their wings for their entire lives, there is little to celebrate.

So on Friday we'd like to invite you to sweeten up your day and protest the egg industry's cruelty to chickens by baking an egg-free cake!

Whether you're a cupcake connoiseur, mad about mudcake, or if it's all about the apple and almond tea cake for you, there's a whole world of cruelty-free cakes you could bake to celebrate World Egg-FREE Day.

Just make sure to share your cake creations with your mates and show them how scrumptious cruelty-free cooking can be. Happy baking!

Show how awesome Oceans are to win a DVD!

Back in May we gave away a bunch of free passes to see the Disney doco Oceans. This underwater adventure is now set for release on DVD in October and we've got a copy from the good folks at Hopscotch Entertainment to give away!

This visually stunning film gives you the chance to experience up close encounters with some amazing underwater creatures. Watching these playful, protective, curious and loving sea animals, it's clear that they deserve our respect and protection just as much as any other animals.

It's not just pigs and chickens that endure awful lives on factory farms -- dogs do too!

Many people don't realise that for pet shops to keep puppies 'in stock' puppy factories in remote areas across Australia churn out litters from unlucky dogs kept in cruel conditions and used as breeding machines.

These dogs are often confined in small dark cages. Many may not even get washed, or receive necessary veterinary treatment, which can lead to painful, life threatening infections or diseases.

With so many dogs in shelters needing homes -- the very thought of puppy farms creating more is crazy!

Oscar is one lucky dog who has been rescued from a puppy farm after 5 years alone in a cage. And his rescuer has started the campaign "Oscar's Law" calling for these cruel farms to be shut down, and pet shops banned from selling animals.

Be a voice for the thousands of dogs kept silent and out of sight on puppy factories across Australia. Join the rally for Oscar's Law this Sunday September 18th at 12noon.

Animals Australia's Ban Live Export television advertisements will be scrutinised on The Gruen Transfer tonight on ABC1 at 9pm (Replay on Thurs ABC2 8.30pm)

The Gruen Transfer, the television show that analyses all your favourite tv advertisements, praises the awesome ones and rips the others to shreds, will be looking at the two latest Animals Australia's Ban Live Export ads TONIGHT-- Yikes!

Make sure you tune in and tell all your friends to as well. While the latest ad is still airing on all commercial stations, and ahead of the historic vote in Parliament tomorrow -- this is a fab time for the panel to be discussing the ads and maybe even put their two cents worth in on the live export trade.

By now you may have seen the sickening images filmed by Animals Australia investigator, Lyn White in Indonesian abattoirs and aired on ABC1's Four Corners.

The response to this footage has been overwhelming! A wave of outrage has spread across Australia as more and more people add their voice to the call to Ban Live Export.

It's so important we keep this momentum up! So we need you to jump onto our Youtube Channel and 'like' all our Indonesian investigation videos.

We know it's hard to actually like the videos, but the more 'thumbs up' the vids get the bigger the chance of them being viewed by even more people, so the call for a ban becomes even louder!

Please also share the vids on your Facebook and Twitter feeds.

This is the largest campaign we've ever had and the greatest chance we've ever had to end this cruel trade -- so thanks for being a part of it!

Most Australians have no idea that sheep have now joined the ranks of chickens and pigs as victims of factory farming. See for yourself:

In the name of fashion, thousands of 'battery sheep' are housed inside sheds in tiny single pens all day, every day, for years on end. This is the 'ultra-fine' wool industry â�" or should we say, 'ultra-cruel' wool industry.

Last night's expose on 6:30 with George Negus shone the spotlight on this cruel industry and offered a glimmer of hope for these animals. Now we need your help to give these animals even more hope for an end to this cruelty.
