2.A vegetarian is generally referred to as someone who does not eat meat, but who does eat dairy products and eggs. A vegan however, does not eat or wear anything that has required using an animal. Therefore vegans, in addition to abstaining from meat, don't eat milk or cheese, don't eat eggs or honey, and don't wear leather, wool or fur. Most vegans also avoid using products that have been tested on animals. Are you a vegan? Please circle

I don't eat beef and I havent been for year, I don't see why everyone can just give up one meat. I also dont eat pork and I dont miss it at all. I think everyone should try and give up just one meat if not them all.

The strongest message we can send to the animal testers is that we won't give them our MONEY to fund further cruel tests. That's why speaking out against testing and putting your cash behind cruelty-free companies is the best way to go.
There are of course people out there who need our help too, so if you can, do give blood too!

I'd like my husband to see Earthlings so he can understand why I am passionate about what we eat and how this impacts on a animals life. He's a vegetarian by default. He never complains, but a deeper understanding would be nice.

Hi Kezzam, thanks for joining the discussion. It is good to know you are keen to be transparent about your practices and welcome visitors to your farm
Unfortunately, Dairy Australia and the Australian government neglected to make it widely known that there was a public consultation on the new standards for bobby calves - something they should have done by now.
As someone who works with calves, I'd be interested to know what you think of the proposed standards to permit calves to be off feed for 30hrs before slaughter?

I agree we need to protect endangered animals. But I don't think that a life on public display is necessarily in the best interests of the animals. There are many great sanctuaries rehabilitating and protecting animals, who try to offer them as close as possible to a natural environment.

...."We only need to watch the daily news on television to realize that the madness has not abated, that it is continuing into the twenty-first century. Another aspect of the collective dysfunction of the human mind is the unprecedented violence that humans are inflicting on other life-forms and the planet itself - the destruction of oxygen-producing forests and other plant and animal life; ill-treatment of animals in factory farms; and poisoning of rivers, oceans and air. Driven by greed, ignorant of their connectedness to the whole, humans persist in behavior that, if continued unchecked, can only result in their own destruction." Eckhart Tolle - A New Earth, 2005 (p.11)

"Just how destructive does a culinary preference have to be before we decide to eat something else? If contributing to the suffering of billions of animals that live miserable lives and (quite often) die in horrific ways isn't motivating, what would be? If being the number one contributor to the most serious threat facing the planet (global warming) isn't enough, what is? And if you are tempted to put off these questions of conscience, to say not now, then when?"

A favourite quote from my favourite author Jonathan Safran Foer:
"Silently the animal catches our glance. The animal looks at us, and whether we look away (from the animal, our plate, our concern, ourselves) or not, we are exposed. Whether we change our lives or do nothing, we have responded. To do nothing is to do something"

"We can't plead ignorance, only indifference. Those alive today are the generations that came to know better. We have the burden and the opportunity of living in the moment when the critique of factory farming broke into the popular consciousness. We are the ones of whom it will be fairly asked, What did you do when you learned the truth about eating animals?"

Well great that ellen and tobey are vegos but what about promoting that on the tv show,i doubt it as money is more important than staying true to a cause,so many tv personalities really do f--- all to help these animals, dont fool yourself that they are any more special as the truth is they are not

@adrian01....As surfa said feral animals are animals that were released by "ignorant, stupid" human animals!!!!!!!!!! Maybe you should direct you attention to the humans who are irresponsible and cause more destruction of the environment and endangerment and death of other species on this planet. No animal deserves to be treated cruelly!

I admit to being too scared to look at the video. Too scared because I knew it would make me angry, frustrated and helpless. All I can do is sign the petition. The script is enough to make me feel so angry at these people. Makes me ashamed to be part of the human race.

The above comments are what should bring tears to our eyes! I have no emotive axe to grind %u2026. but despair when people openly admit that their FACTS are derived from "conversations" and "personal research".
Personally, I base my comments on having been on such livestock carriers, watching with a critical eye all management practices. Seen the care and attention paid to individual animals. Compared the treatment the animals received to my 50 years of disparate experiences in animal agriculture .... and come away simply amazed. Very different to any local sheep and cattle treatment I've seen.
As a media teacher, for 30 years I have encouraged students to seek out bias, identify hearsay (as distinct from actual knowledge), political agendas and interpret sensationalised media reports. The above reports are bursting with all of the aforementioned %u2013 and an objective perspective is all that is needed to see it all in its lurid mis-truth!
Hi Sarah. The ads are now playing across networks 9, 10 and SBS in all major metropolitan areas and extending as far into regional areas as our budget allows. At this stage they'll stay on air for the next few weeks at least but we're hoping to keep raising funds to keep them on air for as long as possible

My 4 year old son deserves this. He is navigating a world that sees things so differently to the way he is being raised.
Everyone eats meat but he and I don't. Other parents love the hatching program but it makes his mummy sad. Other kids go to the zoo but he goes to farm animal sanctuaries. Some kids hurt worms in the play ground. He is taught to not harm even the smallest being.
He always asks mummy if things contain cow's milk, doesn't complain and just puts them back. Sometimes it's a little harder to find the vegan version and sometimes like with ice creams there is not as many choices that are dairy free but he never complains.
It can be hard feeling different but so far he seems to understand. It's just about loving others, showing compassion and respecting that every species is important.

Chickens show empathy as well,
Need proof? I had a silkie bantam hen who was the most bossy aggressive puffball you've ever met but her friend was shy, nice, introverted, and was the lowest of the flock as well,
One cold day in winter, the first cold day of winter, the 16 of may, she got too wet and caught ammonia and I didn't know
You had to blow dry silkies when they get wet,
Before she died my other chickens went in to check on her, say goodbye, and had a little chicken funeral for her.
When I got home she was dead and I cried for her and we buryed her.
Think of her next time you eat your Christmas chicken dinner.
