This part that you wrote seems sensible Vince: "I also believe that you need *both* abolitionist approaches and welfare approaches operating at the same time in society to maximise change for animals (animals suffering now and animals who would suffer in the future)."

For me, so-far I'm most-of-all a fan of the JS.Foer approach. He doesn't emphasise an 'IN or OUT' categorisation (we have enough "you're with us or against us" blah available from politicians and religious nutters don't we?). I also loved what he said about the vegetarian who cracked because they were at an airport late at night and they ate KFC - and so, that was it. Back to meat every-other day then. And his analysis of the reasons for that story being all-too common.
