Meat In Icecream

Hi all, Im just talking about how obviously dairy ice-cream isn't vegan but majority of the time its not even vegetarian it is loaded with gelatine (unwanted bits from the meat industry) because I was very unaware of this issue until thankfully my brother pointed it out so all this time I've been eating my ice-cream not knowing anything about this until very recently! Not only that but heaps of creams have gelatine in them as well. Companies like Blue Ribbon use gelatine in their ice-cream and A-2 in their cream! So just a little reminder to every one!🍦

Gelatin or gelatine (from Latin: gelatus meaning "stiff", "frozen") is a translucent, colourless, brittle (when dry), flavourless foodstuff, derived from collagen obtained from various animal by-products. It is commonly used as a gelling agent in food, pharmaceuticals, photography, and cosmetic manufacturing. Substances containing gelatin or functioning in a similar way are called gelatinous. Gelatin is an irreversibly hydrolyzed form of collagen. It is found in most gummy candy as well as other products such as marshmallows, gelatin dessert, and some ice cream, dip and yogurt

Gelatin is a mixture of peptides and proteins produced by partial hydrolysis of collagen extracted from the skin, bones, and connective tissues of animals such as domesticated cattle, chicken, pigs, horses and fish. During hydrolysis, the natural molecular bonds between individual collagen strands are broken down into a form that rearranges more easily. Its chemical composition is, in many respects, closely similar to that of its parent collagen. Photographic and pharmaceutical grades of gelatin are generally sourced from beef bones and pig skin.

Unfortunately it's all too common, they manage to find a way to sneak by-products into just about anything.
If you are looking for a safe vegan alternative without any nasties, give Over the Moo a try. I honestly think it's the best ice cream i've ever tried. It's based on coconut milk but the coconut isn't overpowering. It's sold in mostly IGA's across NSW but they have stockists listed on their website.
Also another awesome alternative if you are out and about is cocowhip... it's a vegan friendly soft serve, also made with coconut. Pretty expensive but pretty awesome as well..lol.
