Here we go again ... WWF and 2 Swedish groups have filed a court order to stop the planned hunt in Jan. Between 10 & 14% of the ENTIRE wolf population will be shot (about 400 wolves in Sweden).

This is the EU ruling that's being used to stop the planned hunt -

http://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:31992L0043

Council Directive 92/43/EEC of 21 May 1992 on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora

That should be "It was supposed to go on between 2 januariy and 15 february."

There's a lot of appealing and back and forth in the local courts - 3 different local courts are involved, but it seems they'll all end up at The Supreme Administrative Court (see http://www.hogstaforvaltningsdomstolen.se/The-Supreme-Administrative-Court/ ).

Update - 1 local court has given the go ahead for the hunt to begin Jan 2 in 2 of the 5 areas. That means 14 wolves can be killed.  cry

There is an online petition at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/432/239/500/stop-all-hunting-of-wolves-in-norway/ about wolves in Norway.

Norway is worse then Sweden when it comes to killing wolves - the farmers lobby is very powerfull - please sign!

Wolf hunting begins in central Sweden - http://www.thelocal.se/20160103/wolf-hunting-begins-in-central-sweden

Hunters in central Sweden killed a wolf on Saturday as they began an authorized cull of the predators that has been clouded by legal uncertainty.

The animal was shot and killed near the town of Ludvika in Dalarna County.

Under a temporary ruling, 14 animals can be killed until the hunting season ends on February 15 unless the Supreme Administrative Court issues a final decision ahead of that date.

The Elmer Fudd gang have had to increase the hunting area as those pesky wolves have moved out of the supposed area.
4 wolves have been killed, but as it's -20 C everybody's just trying to keep warm.

update - 2 more killed today weds 6th - see http://www.dt.se/dalarna/ludvika/sex-vargar-fallda-hittills-under-licensjakten-i-lovsjoreviret
