Hi everyone! Thank you for reading.

So, just this month I have decided to go completely vegan. I had already stopped eating most animal products, but wanted to take it all the way so I can 100% support what veganism stands for.

On Christmas day, my boyfriend and I usually go to his mother’s house for a Christmas breakfast.

As I have noticed from past years, this consists of lots of bacon, eggs, steak, cheese, sausages, etc.

Just the thought of it made me sick, so I prepared a large container of fruit for myself that I would bring along and eat – watermelon, mango, cherry tomatoes, nectarine, blueberries, etc.

Obviously everyone was asking me questions about my ‘fruit box’ -.-

My boyfriend’s mother asked me “but what about the babies?” Confused, I said..what babies?? And she said “the babies you’re going to have? What will they eat? How will they get all their nutrients?” Okay, BACK UP! First of all, I am 22 years old and I have no intention of having babies anytime soon. I have 2 cats. They are my babies. This made me a bit angry. The Earth has provided us with all of the nutrients that we need. I would have liked to ask her how she received any nutrition AT ALL in the bacon, eggs and sausages that she had for breakfast with the others.

Now, the one that made me really angry, was her partner. She told him “victoria isn’t eating meat anymore.” To which he replied, “why??! What’s wrong with MEAT?!” sounding as though I was some crazy freak.

I really wanted to ask him, WHAT ISNT WRONG WITH IT????

My boyfriend’s brother also said, “if you don’t eat meat, there’s something wrong with you.”

A girl I went to school with sent me a snapchat of her steak, saying “fk being a vegan, this tastes too good”. After I defended veganism on a rather rude facebook status she made, she blocked me…

I just cannot stand how people can just blurt out things like this and then try to defend their meat-eating habits.

Heehee - yeah (the red pill). You could think of it as an opportunity to see what some people are like? It could be any matter of "less socially acceptable" (known) options that people take, which sets em off. Sure it can be challenging at times - and it's annoying particularly that it clusters around what are supposed to be celebratory occasions. Btw that comment about the children is just awkward eh!! Oh well, what can ya do?

Regarding a pic of the steak, it's probly disappointing to feel that supposed-to-be-friends seem to want to rub-your-nose-in-it, sort of thing? Particularly when newer to veg/veganism. After a while I reckon most veg'ns tend to get more chilled-out about it -- because that's their (the other person's) truth, they like the taste of meat so don't wanna go veg'n. That's where a lot of people are at.

Best wishes.

Yes, I do get the feeling of people “rubbing my nose” into things like that! “yum, bacon! You’re missing out. Can’t live without my steak on the bone! Cheese is too good to give up.”

And those are the arguments (if you can even call them that) of most people!!

I was actually speaking to someone and they told me that they saw no point in preserving their body and living a healthy life if they are going to die eventually anyway! And that if they didn’t eat meat, dairy or eggs and didn’t enjoy life, they would just be existing, not living.

My response was that it’s not about living a healthy life necessarily, it’s about making a change for the animals with compassionate choices, and giving the ANIMALS lives worth living, not simply existing just for us to eat and use however we please.

They told me too bad, it’s a harsh world we live in and we’re at the top of the food chain but that’s reality. No point arguing further sad

Yum, broccoli!
Yeah, it aint easy to begin with. It's good to have a friend or place to let out the steam. Like here for example.
Hang in there - it gets easier.

Yep good advice there Robert!

I reckon the 'other people' side of things definitely tends to get easier with time. Once the people close to you get used to you being vegan it's just so not a big deal. And once you get used to being vegan around new people it's also really not a big deal.

But if ever there's something you're finding difficult, or you just don't feel great, or wanna vent - welcome to here!
