Earlier this year I discovered that the Royal Veterinary College has been using young beagle-cross dogs, bred at the College itself, for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research. The dogs will, at some point this year, undergo the introduction of laboratory-manufactured strands of genetic material. They will be killed when they are approximately 18 months.
As if this were not horrific enough, the College, by its own admission, conducted more than 9,000 procedures on animals in 2014. The species used included salamanders, dogs, fish, cats and rodents.
I was shocked to discover the extent of animal research at the Royal Veterinary College. It should be a place that heals animals, not one that deliberately harms them - I hope you feel the same way and want to lend your support to this campaign.
