I’m Laura Wells, I'm a model and an environmentalist who cares deeply for the health and the future of our amazing planet. The beach is my favourite place in the world -- it’s where I grew up, where I learnt to swim, and when I get the chance to model swimwear, it becomes my office! But every time my toes touch the sand, I feel a little pang of sadness.
Why? Because these days our beaches are home to more than squeaky white sand and vibrant sea life, with over 124 million pieces of plastic litter scattered around our coast. Australia is facing a plastic epidemic!
Thankfully, many Australians are waking up to the harm our waste is causing our beaches, wildlife, bushlands and even ourselves -- and this is an urgent time for action. That’s why I’m excited to be an ambassador for the 36,000 person-strong Boomerang Alliance, and to tackle trash by your side.
While working with the Boomerang Alliance team, I was pretty shocked to find out that the NSW Government could weaken their commitment to Cash for Containers, and cave into pressure from Coke and the beverage industry.
