If anyone is interested in adopting ex battery hens please let me know. I am helping a friend to rehome some lovely ladies and they will certainly keep laying eggs for many years still. To good homes only and preferably people willing to take 2 or more.

Just send me a message if u can provide a home for a hen happy if you dont eat eggs, maybe you can give them to people that do.

Thanks,

Lauren

I thought hens are supposed to eat their infertile eggs to replace lost nutrients?

yeh Nelly unfortunately I know what u mean.

Didnt know hens had to eat their old eggs, thats interesting hey. I think that is very interesting actually, but it makes sense. I wouldnt want to eat a chicken period anyway but I know alot of people do. I thought especially if the person in question (say a stubborn family member) refuses to buy free range eggs and chooses to consume eggs (and your a vegan living with a "commercial" hen that lays an egg every 30 hours pretty much) well it would help that situation i think. That is if you can find nutrient and vitamin replacement for the hens if Legry is correct to avoid health problems for the birds.

There is an ebook called something like Domestic Chickens for Dummies.I think that would be a good place to start before thinking about adopting a hen.

AH! OMG! i've been looking online all afternoon for info on adopting an ex-battery hen! Will i have to pay? I'm not keen on paying for a bird if the profits go back the the farm, but if i have to, i will. Have their beaks been cut, and what sort of condition are they in?
Hopefully if i can organise it, i'd love to be able to collect some the day i leave Brisbane and return home (if all else goes to plan). Do you think the birds would be able to handle the 3hr drive? The only chickens i can find in my area are week old chicks. I'd like to give new life to a poor hen, show her sunlight for the first time in her life, let her spread her wings and feel the earth.

I've actually been looking for some ex-battery hens to take in. There is just the problem of living a very long way away in Vic.

Legry you could contact ALV and UPROAR so they can put your name on their lists for next time they need homes for chickens.

i have not had chicken before but would like to adopt 4 girls. We have a large yard and are in the process of building a chicken coop. If there are any available please let me know. And where to collect them from.
