Introducing... the Animal Justice Party!

http://animaljusticeparty.org/Welcome.html

I'm excited.

They need 750 members, and to join you must be eligible to vote in NSW OR Australian federal elections. That means people 17 at the moment can join - if you've registered to vote.

I'm so so so happy I'm turning 18 early next year! happy Hopefully it’s not too late for them to run a senate candidate in VIC for the upcoming federal election... whether it is next week or next year. tongue I can't wait to place my cruelty-free vote!

--

btw...
I don't yet have an extensive understanding of this new party's policy, but with little doubt it will be welfarist to suit the wider-Australian electorate.

So, the question begs (if you're an abolitionist), will you or won't you vote for this party?

I have joined this party, even if they are welfarist it is better to have a voice begging for compassion than to have no voice at all.

"The Animal Justice Party will actively campaign at a government policy level against animal cruelty atrocities as they relate to wildlife destruction, factory farming, animal transportation, companion and domestic animals, pet animals and the use of animals for sport and entertainment.  It will seek to toughen animal protection laws, increase penalties for convicted animal abusers, regulate and restrict the sale and use of pets, and enhance education in greater awareness and appreciation of the needs of animals."

Well its about time Australia is too far behind in these relations, especially factory farming. Im enrolling.

I'm really surprised that this thread hasn't received more attention.

Are most forum bloggers here below voting age??

Haha, i thought the same thing Mel! & then i realised i hadn't commented... haha.
I've printed out my form & am sending it off Monday. I'm so excited that there's an animal party at all, let alone the prospect of being a member.
- I'm not sure what their policies are, but i'm excited to find out. I doubt i'll agree with everything, but the same can be said about any other party.

"Animal Justice Party" Yeah, that's sure to be popular. Sorry to be cynical, but I'm not getting too excited..

Looks interesting and I look forward to seeing their policies. Elections are a great way to bring attention to animal rights.

Same.  Plus - the way our federal political system is set up their votes will have to go somewhere and I'd like to know where before I even consider sending my precious vote their way.  And, I wouldn't join a party I wasn't 110% committed to voting for.

As for where preferences go, make sure you choose yourself.  Always number your preferences in your order of preference, don't take the party's suggestions (you know the idiot-sheet-hand-outs they give you as you arrive to vote).

As for voting in the upper house (the big white paper) number every square below the line. Then you can vote for the animal party first, then the Greens ;o) etc, etc ... making sure to put the 'Shooters Party' last!

I do, but I also know that not everyone does and the thought that people are going to vote blindly for a single-issue party like this and the votes going who-knows-where is, quite frankly, a little bit scary.

I guess I'm also not the biggest fan of single-issue parties - they can only ever be lobbyists.  It sometimes works, but more than often doesn't.
