"Lindt chocolate (and many other brands) with over 70% cocoa are dairy free..... not sure if any of the additives are animal based."
YOU HAVE JUST MADE MY NIGHT!!!
Lindt is vegan. Sweet Williams chocolate is vegan (it's like dairy free dairy chocolate so it's sweet and they have a white version). They're the only ones I've ever found.
Aldi has a bunch of dark chocolates that are vegan as well.
The best place to to look is kosher stores or kosher sections of supermarket, they have ALL the dairy free chocolate, although you have to check the additives.
I prefer to buy sweet williams, just because I like supporting a company that makes vegan products for the sake of it, not just by accident.
I'm currently doing a "I can have a subway that isn't an icky salad sandwich dance" right now. Thought I'd also through "Nobel choice into the mix and mention coles 70% belgium chocolate. Not sure whether either have had a mention but now they have. I always use lindt 75% (I think its 75 anyway) cooking chocolate when I'm making these cookies http://www.theppk.com/2008/10/chewy-chocolate-chocolate-chip-cookies/ they are so mouth watering I have to double the mixture and hire a security guard with no sense of smell to watch over them.... ok I lied about the security guard but that would be pretty helpful.
Also, on the subject of takeout for vegans, Adelaide has Vego and lovin it and godzilla pizza for takeout

Just check this, last time I was about to get my greedy little hands on a packet of lindt they had added buttermilk or something equally depressing to the mix. HOWEVER! HAIGH DARK CHOCOLATE IS VEGAN!! The ingredients lists milk on it, but I checked and they have to do that because they use the same production line to make dark as they do milk. I personally love the almonds and the apricot logs

the flavoured(mint, orange, chilli, blueberry) 70% ones have butterfat, the plain one is fine. I prefer the whittakers 50% dark anyway, doesn't have that bitter taste
just in response to all the subway talk.
i work at subway and if you ask, out the back we have an ingredients list booklet, and also an allergy chart. the allergy chart wont have additives but it sure does have dairy/lactose and egg. =]
i always get chips from red rooster? i always thought they were vegetarian if not vegan..
i don't think to ask if it is i probably will next time, there so nice though oh well if its for the animals i can go without chicko rolls are DEFS not vegetarian... as if she can't taste the meat and/or feel the texture? !
According to the Subway website, the veggie patty and all of the breads contain NO egg. The Italian Herbs Bread does contain dairy but the other breads and the veggie patty "May contain traces of dairy" because it is made in a plant which also processes dairy.

And if you go to Maxi Foods, Thomas Dux, or Leo's Fine Food & Wine you can find other brands of tasty dark chocolate - most of which are fairtrade also! My favourite has been a 50% dark chocolate I bought from Maxi Foods. It isn't overtly bitter like some of them (though that might be your thing) and it had a great texture - can't remember the name but it had a white paper wrapper with the illustration of a ship on the front.
Most proper Dark Chocolate should be vegan because it shouldn't have milk solids in it
