Do you think if their fed enough and are given enough attention and aren't cramped in their cage all day do you think its okay to have a bird?

My budgie was let out every min of the day that people are awake.
Sept today 2nd January my dad put her outside in her cage with out noticing that her door was open and she just flew away.

Why though we walk in and out the door with her like right next to it and I almost walked out with her on my shoulder.

Oh and I sprained my wrist today Gahd damn it.

Sorry to hear that your bird flew away. I hope it will be ok.

I hate how people buy birds and keep them in those little cages and don't get them out, and claim that the bird is angry and bites... well geez I would be like that too! But then there are people who have those bird stands - where they can sit on a perch all day and play around and allow the bird to socialise - they are a good idea. If I ever got a bird I would def have a stand.

I dont think its ok. But then I have a pretty strong view on pets anyway. I think there a very few animals 'suited' to a life with humans, and birds just aren't one of them.

Aww, thats a shame. I hope your bird does ok in the wild, it may not know how to look after itself though. Hopefully theres a chance it might come back, my friends bird did.

Yeah and sprained wrists, they suck. Im accident prone. And 5 mins into the new year i injured my knee.

People who keep birds as pets, in those teeny tiny cages & have their wings clipped: make me feel sick... It is so utterly wrong to deprive an animal of its most natural physical action; to fly.  Sorry, but i'm definitely not a fan of birds as pets.
Although i acknowledge the fact you obviously hadn't had your friends wings clipped, as he flew away.
The only time i consider looking after birds is if they're brought to me injured or sick (etc)  and need to be cared for, and then released.
It makes me far too depressed, seeing those poor animals in cages. =[

I rescued a rainbow lori from work. Obviously, I couldn't release him back into the wild. But it upsets me coz I know I don't have the time to spend w him and he is at the age where he needs a mate. What do I do? Wait until another tame lori comes into work? Or buy another lori (which I don't want to encourage breeding and hence "life in a cage"). I abhor cages and want to find him a home where he will get all the attention he needs.

If anyone is in Sydney and wants a tame lori, preferably w a mate, please let me know.

I hpoe you find your bird.
I think its okay to keep a bird the way you do - letting it out every day so it can stretch its wings and stuff.

I think most Pets, including birds, should be free to roam around without any restrictions at all (like being stuck in a house even though it can fly around) although it would be alright if the animal is rescued or something similar. Maybe try and get one from a shelter instead of a pet shop or breeder.

watch earthlings part one - again

its for our benefit not theirs all pets are...

when I can "own" an animal for my own pleasure or profit, be it a bird, horse, dog, cat, hen whatever, when my interests outweigh theirs then its an unfair situation to keep that animal. Such examples I think are: budgies in shoebox cages with wings clipped and kept solitary, canaries kept as pets, guniea pigs as pets for small children, dogs on chains, animals used for breeding, goldfish bowls, horse  and cow studs. These situations are bullshit because your interest (whether it be looking at a pretty bird, hearing the pretty bird, playing with your dog when its not chained up, making money from breeding your pets etc) outweighs their interests such as freedom and the right to a fullfilling life free from boredom etc and any kind of suffering.

If my dog is bored and unhappy then I shouldnt have the right to own a dog. If I cant be home in time everyday to feed my animals and walk them and ensure their needs are not only met but exceeded then I shouldnt have the right to "own" them. If I cant provide them with company (such as other animals of the same species) and my own company everyday then I shouldnt have the right to own that animal. If I cant afford the space to keep an animal (such as a cat in an apartment) then I shouldnt have one (unless rescuing it - I can understand then) That basically covers my opinions on pets. Although there are rare circumstances where captive raised (wild) animals are rescued etc and may live out their lives with humans, although they may not be totally suited. and other circumstances but ultimately allowing humans to own non-human animals is the cause of all our problems....
