CommBank’s secret ties to the Reef-wrecking Carmichael mine have just been exposed. Documents released today reveal that CommBank has been working with mining giant Adani for months to facilitate the construction of the largest coal mine in Australia.
(see http://www.news.com.au/finance/business/green-groups-to-target-commonwealth-bank-over-potential-adani-financing/news-story/94d9701fe05b3801612015bd33bfb9ae )

In March, the Queensland Government gave Adani the green light to use billions of litres of precious water every year for the Carmichael mine. And how did Adani seal the deal? With a $1.6million deposit paid through CommBank.

CommBank has kept this secret until now. As one of our key supporters of this campaign, I know you don’t want to let them get away with enabling and profiting from the destruction of treasures like the Great Barrier Reef.

So how do we stop them? The same way we stopped the global bank HSBC from funding forest destruction just a few months ago: together.

So far, together we’ve:

- Built a movement of nearly 40,000 people standing up to CommBank.

- Exposed CommBank’s ties to controversial projects like Keystone XL in Canada, the Dakota Access Pipeline in the US, and the Abbot Point coal terminal here on our Great Barrier Reef.
- Thousands of you sent letters to CommBank CEO Ian Narev and swamped its social media channels, and hundreds have rallied outside CommBank offices around Australia.

We know CommBank is reviewing its climate policy and fossil fuel lending right now. With this revelation about their secret relationship with the Carmichael mine, we can escalate the pressure and lock in a commitment from the bank to dump coal for good.

Together we’ve proven before that we can stand up to any corporation that puts profits over the planet and win: and we can do it again with CommBank.
