Australia’s peak scientific body, CSIRO, is a paying member of coal super-lobbyists the Minerals Council of Australia… and has been since 2004. CSIRO’s $10,000 annual membership literally pays for the country’s top fossil fuel cheerleaders to stamp on climate progress.
One of the CSIRO's most important jobs is to give independent advice to the government and the public on climate change - so why is it a member of a lobby group that wants to keep the coal industry digging into the next century?
Take action now and stand up for the dedicated scientists at the CSIRO - see

Australians see the CSIRO as a credible, hardworking scientific body, but their dedicated scientists are being betrayed by the decision of CEO Larry Marshall to link up with the Minerals Council - a fossil fuel industry lobby group that will move heaven and earth to keep coal being burnt.
The Minerals Council has brought you such gems as the 'Little Black Rock' campaign, where it presented a lump of coal and called it 'AMAZING!', but conveniently left out the part about its devastating impact on our planet and our health. Every time Australia has tried to move away from fossil fuels, the Minerals Council has been there holding us back. And the CSIRO's membership has been helping them do it.
Even Australia's biggest energy company, AGL, itself a huge carbon polluter, felt it had to quit the MCA in 2016 over the lobby group’s climate change denial. It’s incredible that CSIRO’s management is still paying membership fees, especially when supporting the lobbyists goes against their own statements about remaining separate from political and policy debates.
Now, more than ever, we need fearless climate science - but with these revelations that CSIRO is a member of the Minerals Council, their credibility is wobbling. Let’s get them back on the right side of history
