The European Commission wants to approve glyphosate weedkiller for another decade, despite the World Health Organisation’s cancer warnings.
Together, we’ve fought for years to get Roundup’s main ingredient banned -- we won’t let Monsanto win the day now!
If we can convince Germany’s Chancellor, France’s President, and Italy’s Prime Minister to step up and vote against the Commission’s proposal, then glyphosate will not be re-licensed.
Because of EU voting rules, opposition by Germany, France and Italy would be enough to block the Commission’s glyphosate proposal. Other governments who also carry a lot of weight have said they will vote for glyphosate -- but we can still win this.
A major study by the International Agency for Research on Cancer concluded in 2015 that glyphosate is a probable human carcinogen. And hardly a month goes by without a glyphosate scandal somewhere in the world -- followed-by Monsanto & Co. scrambling to repair the PR damage.
Dozens of internal emails, released last month in a lawsuit against Monsanto, reveal how Monsanto worked with a consulting firm to induce the scientific journal Critical Reviews in Toxicology to publish a purported “independent” review of Roundup’s health effects.
A staggering 1.3 million Europeans signed the Stop Glyphosate European Citizens Initiative (ECI). Together we’ve told the European Commission to ban Monsanto’s favourite pesticide, to reform the EU’s pesticide approval procedure, and to set EU-wide mandatory reduction targets for pesticide use.
I've just signed the petition to help prevent the EU from approving glyphosate for another 10 years -- Monsanto's infamous weedkiller chemical used in Roundup. We only need the governments of Germany, France and Italy to stand up to the agrochemical lobby and vote NO.
