An upsetting new undercover investigation by Mercy For Animals reveals the sad truth about the dairy industry: Newborn calves are taken from their mothers shortly after they are born—a terrifying beginning to their sad, lonely lives.

The video shows mother cows watching helplessly as their babies are hauled off by workers, never to be seen again. They will never have the opportunity to nurse their young since their milk is sold for profit. The investigation reveals newborn animals struggling to breathe and suffering from diarrhea. Their illnesses and injuries go untreated. For the calves who survive their first few days, life doesn’t get better.

In the dairy industry, female calves are either slaughtered for beef or used as replacements for “spent” cows in the dairy herd. Since males never produce milk, they are often sold for veal. At veal farms, calves are crammed into tiny wooden boxes, often chained by the neck, unable to even turn around or lie down comfortably for months until they are killed.

Cows at factory dairy farms are treated as mere milk-producing machines. From the day they are born until their milk production slows and they are violently killed, they endure lives of torment, misery, and deprivation.

To ensure they produce a steady supply of milk, cows are repeatedly and forcibly impregnated. Several times a day, they are hooked by their udders to electric milking machines that can cause the cows to suffer electric shocks, painful lesions, and mastitis (an infection of the udders).

These highly intelligent and social animals suffer unimaginable abuse from the time they are ripped from their mothers' sides until they are so physically worn out from repeated pregnancies and constant milk production that they are sold for slaughter.

Please help put a stop to this unconscionable cruelty by choosing compassionate vegan alternatives to milk, cheese, and other dairy products.
