Animals in circuses are denied everything that is natural and important to them. They suffer endlessly from boredom, stress, and confinement, which often cause aggressive or repetitive behavior such as compulsive pacing, leaping, and swaying and even self-mutilation.
Animals are routinely forced to travel for months while confined to small, barren cages. They often live in filthy and dilapidated enclosures or are chained in one position for the majority of the day with no chance to move. Many lions and tigers are confined to wagons more than 90 percent of the time.
Animals do not naturally ride bicycles, stand on their heads, balance on balls, or jump through rings of fire. To force them to perform these confusing and physically uncomfortable tricks, trainers use whips, tight collars, muzzles, electric prods, bullhooks, and other painful tools of the trade.
You Can Help
Urge Lord Mayor of Brisbane Campbell Newman to ban cruel circuses in the city of Brisbane once and for all.
