i only remembered the other day (while reading through some stuff on Paul McCartney) that vegetarianism could significantly alleviate, if not solve, world hunger. - using the grain for the animals to feed the 3rd world etc etc.
I must also add that I am extremely jealous that you received a free topic assignment! Put alot of effort into it and make sure your passionate, because in yrs 10-12 there are practically no tasks like that.

Yep. I remember reading some article online that it can technically 'solve' animal cruelty, climate change, deforrestation, world hunger/poverty, the amazon crisis, salinity, drought, global trade, obesity and much more
You could go all philosphical and discuss why society considers it acceptable to eat pigs and fish, but it's not okay to eat dogs, even though they're all as intelligent and aware as each other. And/or, look at the reasons behind why animals are treated cruelly, and its impacts on society and on the environment and the animals and things, ie, current farming practices causing bird flu to move from ducks to chickens to pigs and humans.
