This is part of a heartfelt message that was forwarded from Cheryl, regards that incident of the wombats burrows being filled in - it's so sad - I just wish there were some way to help. I posted on Care2 News Network,
http://www.care2.com/news/member/733080588/1461514
and in groups, and shared on FB, but can't think of anything else.
Cheryl's message -
"I volunteer for a non profit organisation The Wombat
Awareness Organisation.
It needs to be bought to someone’s attention what is
happening here.
A few weeks ago myself, the Wombat Awareness staff , Bob
Irwin, RSPCA and other wonderful volunteers spent days digging up wombat
burrows.
They had been filled in by a farmer illegally.
This is happening all the time in the Murray Lands.
Yesterday it was discovered the same farmer had filled them
in again. How can this be allowed to happen?
DEH and RSPCA are not doing enough. When will someone other
than Wombat Awareness Organisation do something to stop this?
The Southern Hairy Nose Wombat is South Australia’s
fauna emblem, yet our Government does nothing to help it. Soon it will be
endangered!
Between drought, mange, culling permits ( that are not
controlled) and illegal culling they are disappearing and fast!
Will our government let the Southern Hairy Nose Wombat end
up like the Northerns before they act?
Please, I am asking for your help. Something has to be
done.
Please go to the WAO web page and have a look. Go on to Face
book and look up BEAN BAG (wombat) and see what the public from all over the
world thinks of this.
The wombats need your help. I want my children to be able to
take their children out and see a wild wombat.
Kindest regards,
Cheryl L "
