Hey guys!
In the last month I have completed my transition to being vegan after being a vegetarian for the last 7 years.
During my time as a vegie I accumulated a pretty big closet full of leather goods, such as bags and shoes. (I know the 'hypocrisy of being a veg but buying leather' argument so don't bother with that - I am vegan now)
Anyway, these things I have werent cheap - i.e. thousands of dollars in bags and shoes.
Now that I am vegan, I obviously won't be buying anything else from the leather industry in the future.
But what about the things I already have? Can I continue to wear them? I have vegan friends that say both yes and no.

What are your thoughts?
I find this one really tricky. Because technically, you wearing them is no longer contributing to the cruelty. However, I do think it sends out the wrong message if you are trying to be vegan. I think this will have to be up to how you feel, but I know that I haven't worn my ex-favourite boots because it just doesn't feel right. I don't know how this will go down, but how about selling them, and using the money to buy other awesome cruelty free gear?
i feel uncomfortable with wearing leather now becoming vegan i gave my docs and leather stuff to friends and family
my husband used he wallet which was leather untill it wore out the same for a belt
wasting them or throwing them out is just as bad in my opinion
if you want to keep them go ahead they have already being paid for or you could donate them or see if friends and family want them
but i spose if you are worried about the money part you could sell them if they are unwanted
alot of people dont agree on the whole leather thing so just do what you feel comfortable with
I personally wouldn't. Do you have friends or family members who would like them? Maybe you could consider donating them to an op shop. Or, alternatively, Ebay is your friend! My sister makes a decent amount of coin whenever she sells her unwanted clothes online.
I didn't feel comfortable wearing leather when I became vegan, probably also coz omni's would say "but you're wearing leather!" and I feel hypocritical. But that's me It's completely up to you. You aren't contributing to animal cruelty by still wearing it and at least it's not going to waste.
I gave all my leather goods to a friend, she loved me! Haha!
I think if you could sell it on you could make some of the money back (win!) and also those items might just stop someone from buying a brand new version, so that would be a lot better than just sitting in your closet if you're uncomfortable wearing them.
Oh shucks thanks guys . Pretty excited to go vegan - after 7 years of being veg I was feeling very uninspired and reading the new Jonathan Safran Foer book really helped me make the move.
Seems like the general consensus is no...weird because out of my friends most people say its still OK.
It's entirely up to you in my opinion... I personally wouldn't look down on anyone who continued to wear their old leather or silk things, I don't really like the feel of it to be honest but you spent your hard earned money on these things.. If anyone asks you could tell them it's faux? Hah, I dunno.
