Just watch Earthling and it has changed my life. It is shocking, sad, eye opening and inspiring at the same time. I have never cried so much in life than when I did when I watched this. So much of it I knew already but to watch it all in a full length film was so intense. I've been trying to stay vegan since I did the challenge in March but have been struggling a bit, but this has just cemented for me why I need to stick with it and make the change permanent. Watching Earthlings was truely the most traumatic and empowering experience of my life. Reporte on Facebook twice now, and have just bought a copy of the DVD.
Also it really annoys me when people I know say "Oh films like that are about the USA, its not that same here so get over it". We are the exact same in our attitudes and many of our process so that is such a cop out!
It was a well made documentary. I'm actually surprised it hasn't been shown to more people, and that universities haven't taken up the incentive to show it on the numerous movie nights already taking place. I suppose this is in the same line as why Richard Dawkins hasn't been invited as a guest speaker at universities either... which is a shame.
But, to those who can't watch it, go watch it. Come on, we only have to bare with our eyes what they endure with their bodies... it's the least we can do.
I watched it a couple of weeks ago, very touching yet in your face stuff!
I definitely think EVERYONE should watch this film!
After i watched it i went straight to the burner and made a copy for friends and work mates
I watched Earthlings and there are many images and sounds that are permanently etched to my mind forever. The truth was utterly painful, bitter, shameful and at times incomprehensible. Everything is different now for me.
It's strange how so many people are so fixated on just the scene with the dog in the garbage truck.. That scene is at the beginning of the film so it leads me to assume most people stopped watching after that.. However I totally agree that scene is highly upsetting and disturbing, but my heart broke for every single animal in this film (and continues to for every animal that it's happening to RIGHT AT THIS VERY MOMENT), some scenes affected me more than others, like the pig farm workers poking the pigs with sticks and abusing them as they were being sent off to slaughter (like they hadn't been degraded enough already) and the dolphin..
This film highlights the most important point about humanitys utter disreguard for non-human animals welfare, suffering and complete dependence on them. This film is about speciesism, which is just as relavent as rascism, sexism, homophobia, or any other thought process and behaviour that degrades and abuses another living creature.. If you can't "bring" yourself to watch it you're just burying your head in the sand. You're being presented with the truth about how the world really is, and how cruel we as a species really are. It's not about having the guts or the strength to watch it, you should want to know the truth to make this a more peaceful and gentle world for all "earthlings" to co-exist in.. Sorry to get a bit militant about it, but I'm sick to death of people whinging when presented with the truth.
"It is a human beings sympathy with all living creatures that makes a truly HUMAN being"
