Mum and I were going for a walk one day, and as we were walking along the bank of a little dam, I saw something black and feathery in the water near the edge. It was a baby water fowl that had gotten all tangled up in the weeds and was drowning. I got him out and we took him home to look after him. We called a wildlife rescue group of some kind, and while we were waiting for them to get here so they could look after him properly, we sat the little bird in a tea-towel nest happy with a desk lamp over him to keep him warm. The whole family was just sitting there watching him, when suddenly he pops up on these ridiculously long legs, and starts running all over the place, pooping as he goes. It was pretty cute.

We've saved a few animals from the roads, mostly birds, like once we found an owl that had been hit by a car and ended up living in the garage hiding under the car for three days, until it just flew off when Mum was sitting in the grass outside with it. Mum told me about how once, I think before I was born, she found a whole heap of ducks that had gotten hit trying to cross the road. The ducks were injured or stuck all over the road, and cars just kept driving and hitting them more. She managed to rescue six that weren't dead, but they all were too badly injured and died later.
It's horrible how people can just keep driving and ignore injured animals right on the road.

My  family and i volunteer for WIRES and we have looked after many baby possums and birds. They are always so cute. The hard part of hand raising them is releasing them.

We released a ringtail possum a week ago and the next morning i got out of bed and was kinda sad when i remembered there wasn't a possum to feed that morning (it became a very fun routine).

But i hope shes having fun out there!
