Thursday morning I was walking from my car to the train station when I found a bat caught in the barb wire fence.
The poor little thing was tangled and struggling to get unhooked.
I tried to get one of her wings unhooked but it was really hard, I got very panicky and upset, I was shaking so much and almost in tears.
I phoned the vet and got the number for bat rescue, they then contacted Josephine from RSPCA, who drove all the way from the south side of Brisbane to the north side to rescue the bat.
Although I was going to miss my train for work, I went back to my car to get an old towel to put over the bat and I waited with her until Josephine came, it took a while to get her untangled but we did it.
I found out later in the day that the bat was going to have surgery and then be sent to a carer.
SO although I was over an hour late for work I feel so pleased I saved a life!
That's so awesome. And I'm glad you called in the pros and didn't try to save it yourself. So many people think they are doing the right thing by trying to save bats themselves, but one scratch can cause you all sorts of grief. The vaccinations to protect yourself against Lyssavirus are like $500... and you need 3 of them within a month. And even if you get bit after having those jabs, you may still require more once you go to the doc. Crazy stuff!
Yayy! Well done!! So glad to hear!!
And that's also great about the RSPCA I remember i use to work next door to an Aussie Disposals and I remember when they got people in to "remove" the sea gulls in there roof and these people just came along with huge garbage bags and just threw live seagulls in them I wasn't at work but one of the girls who was working told me.. I called the RSPCA straight away and the came down that day and really ripped through Aussie Disposals!! It was great.. They got in big trouble.
