What are peoples thoughts on the way animals are kept and treated at these places?
Are the animals caught from the wild or are they taken from the wild because they need rehabilitation?
I know there has been a huge hype about seaworlds out of Australia being bad but what are our standards like?

hmm its a bit weird.... they even walk their tigers around and let people touch them... and of course they have to drug em up with sedatives to do that....

I know dreamworld often cull ibis in the park, and Australia Zoo is notorious for animal abuse!

I'm sure there are some stuff places like these in Australia do that we woul not agree with...
But I can think of things for the plus side...
they have rehabilataion programs and breeding programs
they raise awareness to the public of issues and also educate people about the animals
and also have shows quite often on tv about there animals and programs they run to help animals...
Yep happy

By no matter what... I still think places like sea world, that keep dophins and other sea animals in captivity is so so wrong....
Please watch the movie "The Cove" and you will know what I'm talking about.... sad

I would love to know where you base your australia zoo information from? I happen to know and talk to lots and lots of people who work at australia zoo and am always questioning about how the animals are treated and their policies and procedures. I have never crossed any animal abuse when I have been there and the animals seem very loved and steve irwin made it purely about the conservation and education on animals not the exploitation like many other zoos and circuses. Also my mother worked at the animal hospital located right next door to the zoo and I have been in there myself. It is amazing how much these people care for animals, its their job to and why would you do something you hate? Their rehabilitation programs are nothing short of amazing and they don't just cater for their zoo animals they rescue other injured wildlife and nurse them back to health and release them. I don't see how a zoo owned by a family who would buy thousands of blocks of land just for conservation would allow animal cruelty. But if you have evidence I'm willing to look at it and reconsider and even confront the 15+ workers and volunteers I speak to both in the zoo and hospital.
