PETA is obviously the most influential animal rights organisation in the word. Otherwise everybody here wouldn't be talking about them. Activists talk about them , Animal abusers talk about them and the public who read about them talk about them. This is the whole point everybody knows of them. This only has one effect and that is people talking about animal abuse , veganism and activism.
Isn't this what we want ? does it matter how they get it out there ? They don't harm anyone in the process. They target people who do evil things to animals. These people deserve to be exposed. They need an organisation that will go to all lengths , who will spend money on bringing Animal abuse to an end. Industries that abuse animals are so scared of the effect that PETA is having ontheir business. I don't understand how so called activist can call them extreme. Nothing is more extreme than the horrific violent torture animals go through everyday.
Extreme is not letting animals out of cages , extreme is locking them in... Im all for anyone who will let them out!
I've sort of "disowned" Peta in a way ><, don't get me wrong, they've done a lot of good and I'm not at all going to go against them or anything, I'm just not for them anymore. I really hate some of their ads (some are really degrading and rude) and some other things they do, not to mention the fact that with every "wrong doing" or force fullness and "preaching" peta does, people around me automatically assume I'm like that (not that it's Peta's fault for that I guess).
So yeah but I still love their band ads (how can I not?) and their other ads that actually show the situation and are informative, plus all that they've achieved is amazing, so I congratulate them for that!

That's your choice to disown them, however i'm sure people will always assume you are like them or worse. In my opinion if people assume i'm like PETA id take it as a compliment. There are worse things to be than someone helping animals. PETA is not the most radical group, compared to say the ALF . I suppose it comes down to your own opinion on what is going to far to help animals.
I just don't understand how their adds are offensive? If we are admitting they have achieved great stuff it means these adds etc are working right ? Im interested to know what adds you are talking about ? perhaps i havent seen them.
Just a couple that I really think are stupid and unnecessary. I'm not naive enough to say that sex doesn't sell(and get publicity), buuuut could a little bit of subtlety hurt? When you use the concept of naked women over and over and over and over, it cheapens your image to sh*t. I'm not against the idea of using sex appeal in advertising, but I am against ads that look like stills from low budget pornos.
I also think a lot of these ads are irrelevant. When Pamela Anderson gets her boobs out and says "don't wear fur" I'm guessing the audience that finds the ad appealing (mostly males) aren't going to be wearing fur anyway, any time soon.

This one is not so bad. I mean, she's basically naked but there's a legit reason for her to be and it actually gets a message across rather than just having people stare at a naked chick.
how is this thread still going haha
peta rocks and is the most influential animal rights group in the world
the fashion industry is scared shi*less of them
the meat industry is scared shi*less of them
the cosmetic industry is scared shi*less of them
hell the tea industry is scared shi*less of them

I see your point that these adds wont exactly make you want to go veg or desex your pet. But i think the point is a picture of a dog to go with the add will not catch peoples attention. I know if animal rights groups use graphic pictures of abused animals people are offended. I guess i think their adds are linking the message with something that is appealing to people more so than the sad truth or images of the issue at hand. It will have people talking good or bad about the issue. It raises awareness through debate.
It was mentioned in this thread how their super bowl add was banned and a huge waste of money. Someone pointed out how genius it actually was. Because it was never about the add . It was getting animal rights in the media through something controversial happening. Getting animal rights in peoples minds and discussions. I think its bad this is the way the world works. That society cant see the truth and need the issues to be raised by celebrities for them to listen. But so far it seems that the approach works.
