Did any Perth people recently get a letter from the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children foundation asking for donations? Just wanted to say don't be fooled by what they plan to use the money for. The foundation has a history of funding animal experiments! I put a PETA "donation withheld" please stop testing on animals sticker on the form and sent it back to them at their own expense.

I got one... then put it in the bin.

If you want to make money - DON'T SEND OUT MILLIONS OF LETTERS!!! I can start to guess how much the whole thing cost.... paper, printing, envelopes, postage....

Yeah the cost of sending out all these letters would be massive. I'm happy to waste their money by sending back blank forms covered with PETA stickers happy

That's a great idea. I've been wanting to be more vocal against charities that test on animals (no matter how important the cause) lately, it's just such a hard issue to get the public on your side with.

I don't think it'll ever happen unless they are animal lovers also sad but hey sick children vs lab rats... who do you think 99% of the population are going to choose?

It's not even about that now though.. at least it doesn't have to be. We have things like invtro testing which works just as well... though people would rather test on animals. It's probably just like meat; it is accepted by the majority.

Yeah I know, I completely agree. I wouldn't choose either really, both are capable of suffering and I don't want either of them to. Obviously I want a cure for cancer and other diseases. For example, my Nana died of breast cancer a couple of years ago, and I now have an aunty with it. I used to attend the Breast Cancer Run with my family to kind of remember my Nana whilst tying to help others in those situations. But I just can't do that any more, that doesn't mean I care about women with breast cancer any less though. The best way we can sway people is by giving them alternatives. What I find ironic is that we can say we are so separate from other animals, but by testing on them we are also assuming that we are so similar.

It’s obvious who the majority will choose. But I wonder what the majority would say in regards to primates being used in research? Some of Australia's biggest hospitals use primates in biomedical research. It’s not just rats... Not to say that rats are less important, no animal should be used.

I was talking to a friend and she was horrified to learn that the charity she was supporting used animals. She now only donates to Lighthouse Labs (a Perth cancer research lab that has a no animal testing policy).
