today i had the joyous opportunity of watching and participating in the slaughter of two sheep. i passed up the latter but had no choice really when it came to watching as it looked like my fathers Christmas has come early when he found out we were helping and looked like my funeral was coming earlier when i said i didn't want to.
so pretty much he showed me luke and nick the proper way to slit a sheep's throat when it has a thick lot of wool and how to when its been shorn. then we went through all the crap i have know for years removing wool, skin, knuckles ,head and hanging up ect.. then when lukE went do do the split down the center he hit the bile sack and im not joking when i say that is the WORST SMELL ever. any way there was green bile on the ground coz of that on top of the blood. the blood is fluro red. so luke finished that off and when all the guts and stuff were in the wheelburrow nick started on his and he did a similar thing to luke cept he hit the bladder. nick got peed on by a dead sheep . anyways then the urine was draining out of the sheeps neck i was like eeewww . after that i went and planted clover seed coz the smell was overly disgusting. when i got back dad was like lauren! your just in time i was just about to show the boys how to take out the brains and tounge -__-.
and i was like kill me now..but i'd prefer a bullet to the brain. anyways dad then proceeded to smash the center of the sheeps skull in halves with a butchers cleaver then he showed us where to cut to remove the tounge and how to scoop out the brain!.
if i was a sheep id prefer a bullet to the brain.
btw i am totally disgusted by it but i prefer not to write things with to much of personal oppinion in it. altho i do always fail.
i wouldve screamed and sworn and made the biggest deal ever. i wouldve tried to knock both of them out and take the sheep somewhere safe. f**k thats horrible. id be crying for days
I don't know why, but the 'blood and guts,' and smells that comes with them, have never phased me at all. It is the taking of an innocent life that upsets me immensely.
Why does your family slaughter its own sheep anyway?

they live on a farm. so they "make" all their own meat and my grandpa was a butcher so my dad and his brother teach my male cousins the "tricks of the trade" and its not the blood and guts smell its bile its different but it still might not bother you. ive gotta say although it does bother me they do have a very good life. and its a lot better than chain produced meat.
i couldnt walk away my dad freaks out if i ask to...he even had a really long go at me at the other day for going on this website coz the kind of people who go on here are "extremist freaks"
