I've been told that if you cannot stop to avoid an animal(or a human for that matter) and you cannot safely swerve, the best thing to do is actually try and get it up onto the bonnet as for some reason this is less damaging and also removes the risk of them being run over by someone straight after you or crushed by your wheels or other parts of the car.
Obviously the most important thing to do whenyou're driving for the safety of yourself and others is to concentrate and keep your eyes peeled.
I've heard the same thing, however I'm sure that's theory's been debunked somewhere like Mythbusters. I have been told to 'gun it' so hopefully the animal wont crush the car or something but like hell i'm doing that!! I've swerved into other lanes before or hit the brakes when some silly cat or dog decides to suddenly appear (other drivers dont like it obviously but in one second you look in the side mirror, either speed up or slow down to not hit the other car and swerve!)
I'd definately swerve. I slam on my breaks when I see birds on the road. It always looks like they're not going to move, but do at the very last minute.
I swear they are laughing at us.

I bought this product called "Shoo Roo" which is apparently meant to alert roos of a vehicle approaching, but it doesn't work
Is this that thing you put on the grill.. that makes a high-pitched sound animals can hear but we can't? I was thinking of getting one... but if they don't work i won't bother.

I apologise greatly on behalf of charlie, my dog, who has run in front of numerous busses, cars and motorbikes and probably caused more heart attacks than high cholesterol.
