not sure if this has been posted already or not and im sorry if this is classed as spamming ( i promise im not a spam bot!), but ive come across this great iphone app which has a comprehensive list of all the food additives and their origins. perfect for vegans who are off shopping and come across something they are unsure of. You can even filter out searches so only vegan ingredients will turn up. The best thing about it is that it was developed here in australia and is also valid for the US and UK!

its easy to use and it does cost money ($3.99 to be exact), but its definitely worth it compared to constantly losing my veg*n shopping book. hahaha.

I don't know how it compares to that one (it's obviously not as great but heck its free!) but there is also a free app called  Animal-Free  which lists animal ingredients, alternative names, origins, derivatives and common uses happy

I use animal-free and I like it.
It's pretty useful.
Will look into the other one though.

i just had a look over the animal free app and its great, only bad side i guess to it is that it doesn't specify the actual E number for anything, eg E1422 etc, because as we all know a lot of foods will have ingredients labeled using the E number system compared to what the additive is actually named, Which for someone like me is a bad thing considering i dont know what all the chemical compounds are actually named. hahaha. Where as the app i posted you can search using he E labeling system or by the additives name as well as filtering your searches by kosher, vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and dairy free.

i think the animal free app would be great for cosmetics. but hey, its free so ive got no complaints. haha
