I'll say straight off the bat that I work for at the RSPCA and therefore my comments are biased. But I like the majority of you, I am vegan, and care A LOT about the plight of factory farmed animals.
they also have sausage sizzles to raise money for the animals all the time.
The RSPCA has formerly tried running vegetarian 'sausage' sizzles and unfortunately it just doesn't make the same sort of money. We have to acknowledge that the RSPCA is NOT a veg*n organisation, and they're going to sell what's economically viable. They're a charity and ultimately want (read: need) to make money. They're also simply a product of their main customers -- people who go to the shelter just want a companion animal, the vast majority aren't veg*n. Being a vegan, it is kind of disappointing, but you need to see it from their perspective too.
I'm not "all for" RSPCA but i noticed not a single word was said when they did a HUGE puppy farm campaign which saw Billboards all over the city with ALV's picture of the abused dog plus countless bus stop posters. In that one campaign RSPCA gained more attention than all vegan AR groups combined (due to resources of course)
They are a government organisation so i dont know why people expect them to share their ideals of a vegan world. And yes, RSPCA do care about factory animals, sow stalls, live export. They have pictures of them all over their web page, I just dont agree with how they promote free range as a solution.
Exactly. Being a government organisation (however they are barely funded by the govt) means they're not going to come out and isolate the huge majority of Australia (meat eaters).
They do what they can for animal WELFARE, but don't focus on animal rights. I did (still do) think that they should do more for farm animals, but all of their resources are required for what they do now (and they do A LOT of great for companion animals). If they redirected these resources to the meat industry, they would have to abolish what they do for companion animals and I still don't think they'd be able to CHANGE how things are being done.
That's just my two cents.
