*clicks tongue* why is it only considered cruelty once they start getting physically beaten? 'owning' the elephants alone is cruelty. And we know much worse things happen to those beautiful animals than what we saw in that video.
In the previous post, I included the link to a PETA email to send for the eles in Ringlings, and I couldn't post - got a strange message that I did not have permission to enter!

Dont u know elephants are just oversized pets? Geez c'mon! *sarcastic roll of the eyes*
But yes I agree. Its funny how taking an animal out of its natural environment and making it "perform" isnt cruel.

It's also especially horrible for elephants because of how amazing their minds are. They are one of the few animals, like primates, whales and penguins (?), which actually get depressed. I watched a doco on the animal planet of a mother elephant losing her baby - it died of natural causes. Once the baby elephant collapsed and died, the mother refused to leave it. It just stood over it crying in its own way.
Yeah Matt.Y I have seen docos showing how elephants mourn. It's so full on! They are very emotional creatures.
I have also seen a clip on Nat Geo channel, amazing shots or something they call it. It was a clip of an elephant just about to walk out onto stage and she snapped... picked up her trainer, threw him, stamped all over him, and ran out of the tent. In the end she was killed by police due to "safety reasons" - last time I checked a big enough tranquilizer will also stop an elephant?

Sigh.
I saw that as well
When my sister-in-law was in malasia she saw a elephant crying. The elephant was forced to do these massive walks all day and was whipped.
