Well, that's cool! My doctor doesn't know. I don't go to the doctors enough for that. I probably should, but my mum has a 'suck it up and take a panadol' policy that we more or less stick to.
I go by that too. Id be in bed dying, and ill just take a panadol and see what happens LOL
i hate doctors and hospitals. For me they represent problem and fear and dying and not a fun jolly visit D:
I hate doctors... I'm unemployed and really can't afford the costs of seeing one. I keep getting letters and calls from them because I'm overdue for a test.
We live in Australia!
GP's bulk bill everywhere but in The ACT and in The ACT if you're with Centrelink it's bulk billed.
GP's are free in our country!
Bulk billed doesn't mean free... and there are added costs for different tests.
Bulk billed means that our taxes pay for you.
That will get you a general GP visit.
If you are unemployed go to Centrelink and get a health care card. Then the majority of tests are covered under bulk billing as well.
Or go to a public hospital
Lol! I wouldn't want to go to a public hospital in an emergency!
My b/f's brother cut off half his thumb, and they kept him waiting.... it wasn't until he took the bandage off and purposely bled all over the emergency room that they gave him help!
Sarah, if you go to centrelink and get a health care card, GP's, ambulance, Basis hospital, x-rays and pathology (bloods) are all free.
I've not come across a test yet that I'm not covered for.
Western cultures are way more meat/dairy- heavy, lots of asian/indian/eastern doctors are far friendlier towards veg diets and lifestyles.
I've had most doctors be fairly sceptical about my being vegan.... but I just do my own thing and use them for prescriptions and blood tests.
If you have low iron, going back to an omni diet isn't the only, nor the best answer, and any doctor who advises it as the only course of action is probably worth chucking.

Wow, usually if you mention possible amputation type things they will rush you right through.
I've been really lucky also, all my doctors have been good about my veganism.
I had a lump removed from my eyelid in June, and I was tested before the surgery, and I tested tops for everything. I got passed from person to person and introduced as Leigh "the very healthy young woman." Was great!
for melbourne posters, here's a site that a lot of you may be interested in. has a list of doctors, naturopaths, dentists etc who are recommended due to being vege/vegan friendly (but not necessarily veg/vegan themselves). Im booked in with Dr Rose next week for my first check up as a vegan!
I only see vegetarian/vegan doctors; just call around and ask before visiting.
Not to sound racist but often Indian doctors are more open to vegetarianism/veganism.
We should make a website that lists veg friendly doctors throughout Australia... Hmm...
