Coles supermarkets

I just happened along the Coles website because I knew they used to do a community grant program where they would fund community "grassroots" organisations and I was hoping they could provide some vegan items for a stall I'm doing soon.

Anyway, I found that on the application form for their Local Community Support Program, they specifically state that they will not support Animal Welfare organisations.

WTF?

I mean, just... WTF?   angry

Check it out for yourself:

More info on the LCS program: http://www.coles.com.au/About-Coles/Community/Local-Community-Support.aspx

Please take a moment to write to Coles using their online feedback form and tell them that you find this offensive, inconsiderate, narrow-minded and completely backwards: http://www.coles.com.au/Coles/Coles-Feedback.aspx

By simply stating they will not provide grants for anything to do with animal welfare, that not only discounts animal rights and pro-vegan organisations - who, by the way, spend a lot of time promoting products that Coles sell (such as Orgran, Leda, Sweet William etc.) - but also relatively uncontroversial groups such as animal shelters and groups like the RSPCA.

It's just nuts!

You're kidding.... That's insane! Animal Welfare seems so out of place compared to the other ones!

That's bizarre!
Maybe it's something to do with their meat suppliers...perhaps they don't want to offend them?
Still stupid though...it's saying that supporting animal shelters etc are not as important as other charitable organisations. Unfair.

They just recently took away a pet food drive for the 'animal welfare league' at coles supermarkets on the gold coast. My fiance and i wrote in expressing our disgust. Coles called and said it would be returning within a week, so they must have received a few complaints, however, 7 months on, they still have not returned the donation bins.

I suppose they just don't want to support anything that could cause the slightest bit of controversy and as someone said, their meat undoubtedly comes from factory farmers. But hey, hypocrisy never stopped them before, did it?
