My lıght bulb moment actually occured whıle watchıng TV.
I was watchıng a TV show where a background character was choppıng the heads of some chıckens ın the background and ıt just occured to me how the medıa used anımals ın such cruel ways and how many chıckens are kılled ın one year for the use of the medıa.
I then decıded that I wouldnt eat any sort of meat and ıf I were to; I would lımıt myself.

This reminds me of that joke:
"How many meat-eaters does it take to screw in a light bulb?
None. They'd rather stay in the dark"

Anyway, mine was when I realised that every life has a right to exist on its own terms. No species should exist soley for the purpose of another.

I didn't have a realy big 'light bulb' moment, it was more of a slow thing, but I clicked while researching for a debate (yes, i love debating) on fur. The debate was pretty much:
That we should ban the sale of fur.
Unfortunatley, I was on the negative team, so we were against the banning of fur, but we still came up with some pretty awesome points. It was upon researching this, and talking to my friend (who is also a big debator, and a long term vegetarian) that I saw how cruel the meat industry was. It wasn't till after my trip to Japan that I went vegetarian though. (I told myself that when I got back from Japan I was going to live a new life)

And I've never gone back! (except when the school canteen sold me a 'vegetarian pastie' that had meat in it, and I was told repeatedly that it couldn't possibly be meat.)

My Dads doing his best to put me off, saying want some strips of bacon, eggs, pork & last night brought kfc, and ate the chicken in front of me. My only reply was your ignorant.
sad He's probably just having a go at you because he A) doesn't have the resolve to do it himself and is therefore pretending that it's not a serious issue, or B) thinks it's a "phase"...

Stick with it -- eventually he'll realise that you're serious and that a bucket of KFC is not going to make you forget about the terror those poor 6-week old baby chicks went through -- in fact it will probably do the opposite.

Congratulations on going veg, btw! I hate to say it but you're probably going to experience a lot more ignorant comments than that!!! wink You have to laugh about it happy

Witnessing someone "live veg" is often a very powerful method of persuasion for many people... In no time at all you will become walking proof that being veg doesn't mean eating salad or becoming uninteresting as a person tongue tongue That said -- if you have any questions about what to eat how to deal with anything, just ask. We've all been through the same thing happy  dove

I totally agree. I also think that often when meat eaters tease vegetarians it's because they feel awkward and don't know how else to deal with the situation. Just knowing someone is a vegetarian challenges them to think about what they're eating. And it's no wonder they feel awkward... they're eating a dead animal!  scared
