its using symbols and numbers to make letters.. 3 can be E, 4 can be A, 5 can be S. then you get into using symbols..like this || can be N..see? and then symbols and numbers..this |2 can be R.
so yeah..
from what i recal, people would use symbols and numbers to make words that a computer couldnt decifer so that they could get private messages to one another without being intercepted, i cant remember why but it was called 1337 speak.. thats preobablly totally off teh mark, but look it up anyway if your interested lol.
