An African love bird lived with us...
it would fly around the house,
curl into the warm crooks of necks.
I stayed away a night for a sleep over,
dad had the cage out on the lawn apparently;
chook as he called him, opened the cage door --
When I got home he was gone,
the cage was left out still, encase he would come back to it,
the bottom off so chook could feel the grass, as Dad would often do.
Lil cute colourful thing probably froze to death,
or tried to befriend someone's radius cat.
Point being, African love birds happen to be very affectionate
and keeping one alone was the main mistake, if to keep him.
He was a smart bird and i'd seen him open the cage door a few times,
but wouldn't stray too far from company.
